“He is to be discharged on 15th of January 2022. Outstanding medical bill stands at Ksh1.5 million. We are calling upon friends and family to help us offset the bill,” the poster appealed.

Akuku also spoke for the first time since his admission to the facility, thanking his fans and the whole country for standing by him during the hospitalisation journey.

“Thanks to everyone for your love, support and prayers. For those who have been showing love, those who have been contributing, those who are still contributing from the bottom of my heart I want to say thank you so much and we are almost there. Keep praying for me and I really appreciated you all,” he spoke in a video.

He was moved to the general ward having been admitted at the High Dependency Unit (HDU) and has been recovering well at the hospital.

Nation FM radio host Tina Kaggia had shared on Thursday, December 30 that Akuku had been admitted at Nairobi Women’s Hospital-Rongai the previous week. While at the hospital he was diagnosed with pneumonia but was later discharged and put on medication.

However, he was readmitted to the hospital after one of his lungs collapsed. Kaggia added that the comedian needed Ksh200,000 to be admitted to Nairobi West Hospital.

A day later, Daniel Ndambuki, alias Churchill, rallied his fans during his New Year’s Eve show at Garden City Mall, Nairobi to raise funds for Akuku, the response being beyond outstanding as they raised Ksh400,000 in minutes.
