Arrest Warrant Issued Against Omar Lali's Friends After No-Show

A Nairobi court issued a warrant of arrest against Omar Lali's three friends - Kusai Lali, Ali Bakari and Abdul Hakina after they failed to turn up in court.

Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul, on Wednesday, June 9, issued the orders after the trio did not appear in court after they were summoned.

Police had claimed that the three were believed to be the first to respond at the scene in the Lamu house where Keroche heiress Tecra Muigai was injured prior to death.

Magistrate Abdul had also summoned Omar Lali to appear in court after lamenting that he had not responded to three of the judicial summons.

“They have failed to heed summonses to appear before the inquest to testify.

"I, therefore, issue a warrant of arrest for them to be brought to court,” the magistrate declared.

The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji elected to drop murder charges levelled against Lali, who was with Tecra when she allegedly fell from a staircase at a house they were residing in.

Haji had cited lack of substantial evidence and opened a public inquest into billionaire Tabitha Karanja's daughter’s death.

11 witnesses were lined up to testify against Lali. 3 of the 11 had requested for their identity to be concealed as they feared consequences and attacks from Lali's associates.

The magistrate directed that the three will provide their recorded evidence in secrecy as they were Lamu residents.

"I have keenly listened to the request presented by the prosecution to protect the three witnesses. The prosecution has convinced me and I, therefore, grant its request," Abdul ruled on Wednesday, June 9.

According to the court, the three were two nurses and a friend of the deceased heiress.
