Autopsy Further Accuses Rotich Of Killing Agnes Tirop

The autopsy was carried out on Monday, October 18 by two pathologists at the Iten County Referral Hospital (ICRH) mortuary, among the Government pathologist Dr. Dorothy Njeru.

An autopsy carried out on the body of slain Tokyo Olympian Agnes Tirop has revealed that she was stabbed on her neck to her death and suffered blunt force injury to the head.

The autopsy was carried out on Monday, October 18 by two pathologists at the Iten County Referral Hospital (ICRH) mortuary, among the Government pathologist Dr. Dorothy Njeru.

“Generally, the examination has shown injuries due to blunt post-trauma,” she disclosed on the results.

When asked about the number of stab wounds, the government pathologist clarified that the details will be made available by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers who were present during the exercise and are currently investigating the cause of Tirop’s death.

“We have prepared a report which has been issued to the DCI for further analysis. The stabs were to the neck and the blunt trauma was to the head,” the pathologist said after concluding the three-hour exercise.

Dr Njeru was a family pathologist who carried out the exercise witnessed by a foreign physician ath the hospital. Relatives led by the late Agnes Tirop’s parents Vincent and Dina Tirop were present at the county funeral home from 8 am.

Other family members at the morgue were the athlete’s brother Timothy Limo and cousin Jeremiah Sawe.

The autopsy came just a day after the prime suspect in the murder, Ibrahim Rotich, was arraigned at the Iten Law Courts where Senior Principal Magistrate Charles Kutwa ordered for him to be detained at the Eldoret Police Station for 20 days as the police conclude investigations.

After the autopsy, the family later moved the body to Eldoret Hospital mortuary ahead of Tirop’s burial in Kapnyamisa village, Nandi County, on Saturday, October 23.

On the subject of the burial, Tirop’s family revealed on Tuesday, October 19 that it will cost Ksh5 million to lay her to rest.

The burial committee comprising of her family members, representatives from the Athletes Kenya Organization, and officials from Nandi County Government had staged a fundraiser at her parents’ home where they met on Monday.

Speaking to journalists, Keiyo South OCPD Tim Makori disclosed that parents of both Tirop and Rotich went to the Iten Police Station on Wednesday morning, October 13.

They were following up on a report that was filed by the deceased’s father the previous day, which indicated that her daughter was missing.

During their interaction with the police, Tirop’s husband’s parents stated that he had called them crying and asking for forgiveness. He, however, had not revealed to them what he had done wrong.

“Alarmed by the statements, police officers resulted to visiting their house. When they got inside, they found Tirop on the bed with blood all over. She had been stabbed on her neck,” Makori stated.

Residents in the area told journalists that the 25-year-old and her husband had been having domestic squabbles for quite some time.

They suspected that Tirop had gone to take her belongings from the husband’s house when the unfortunate turn of events took place.
