Bus Driver Bullies Motorists Along Major Highway (VIDEO)

A rogue bus driver was caught on camera on Friday, December 17 bulldozing his way through oncoming traffic near the Makutano junction along the Nairobi-Nyeri Highway.

A video seen by Viral Tea showed the bus appearing out of the blue and forcing its way through oncoming traffic along the busy highway.

Road users were forced to swerve off the road in a bid to avoid a head-on collision with the bus driven at a rogue speed and manner.

The bus whose number plate is KCF 653Z is registered to a bus sacco that operates along the highway.

In another clip, the same bus driver can be seen dangerously overtaking at a diversion while ignoring the ‘no overtaking’ sign.

Kenyans online have since appealed to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to take action against the rogue driver.

The video surfaced after the National Police Service (NPS) urged motorists to be on alert during the festive season after it took note of the rising number of road fatalities since the start of December 2021.

“It is in this regard that we urge all motorists, passengers and pedestrians to exercise diligence and caution on our roads as we approach the festive season and closure of schools. The rainy weather seems to compound the situation too,” read its statement in part.

The NPS appealed to members of the public to fully cooperate with them to reduce the number of road accidents, with the Neo Kenya Mpya bus accident being the latest occurrence.

“Note that our officers will ever be present to offer any assistance as they ensure compliance with the rule of law. We thus appeal for maximum cooperation from the members of the public in reducing the number of road carnage,” it added.

Students from Gititu Mixed Secondary School in Gatanga, Murang’a County were injured in the Kenya Mpya road accident where a driver died after the bus he was driving overturned. Reports indicated that the accident involved two buses that had ferried the students.

The bus was reportedly being driven by a conductor who was not authorised, nor was he qualified to do so.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the two buses were speeding and were closely following each other. The accident occurred when the second bus had tailgated the lead bus that eventually overturned.

The driver leapt out of the vehicle on noticing what was happening but died in the process, making him the only reported fatality. Passers-by had helped to pull the students from the wreckage as rescue teams arrived to rush the students to the medical facilities across the country.
