Ex-NTV Journalist Hired By BBC

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has raided the Nation Media Group (NMG) yet again, this time bringing on board journalist Brian Osweta to the international media house.

Taking to his social media on Wednesday, December 8, Osweta expressed his joy at being included in the BBC team, which has a bureau in Nairobi.

He shared a photo of himself at his new workplace, posing next to the iconic wall of arts encompassing its BBC’s logo which features pictures of some of the most significant African stories ever told.

“His Grace has, is and will always be sufficient for me. Thank you, Jesus! You deserve all the glory. Truly it has been a year of Great Expansion,” he wrote.

Osweta left NMG on December 6, 2021, through a social media post, thanking the media house for according him the opportunity to express his skills as a data journalist for one year.

“I am extremely grateful to @NationAfrica #NationNewsplex for all the opportunities, and growth I have experienced during my time here (it truly is one of the best training grounds for journalists). Today,1 year later, I leave well equipped and prepared to face my next assignment,” he wrote on Twitter.

Osweta helped in steering the data journalism desk to its full potential, with the Nation Newsplex feature detailing in colour and informative data regarding the biggest stories in Africa and around the world.

He will be excited to find out that several of the journalists who joined BBC from Nation Media have gone on to become international icons in the media space, the last one in recent memory being Larry Madowo who is now attached to CNN.

Osweta follows Victor Kiprop, who joined BBC after leaving the media house’s TV station, NTV. He will serve as its Business Journalist, coincidentally, following the same curve Madowo took.

The business news anchor has been at NTV for the past three years and spent his last ten months co-hosting Your World on the station.

“This also happens to be my last show here on NTV, yes, you heard me right, and I must say it feels like yesterday when I went on air and I have been here for the last three years, co-hosting Your world for the last ten months. This has been a dream come true for me,” he announced.

Kiprop graduated with a Degree in Bachelor of Commerce from Egerton university in 2015. He joined CNBC Africa as a business reporter trainee for five months in 2017.

He recently married his long-time girlfriend Lillian Skyler in a colourful traditional wedding.
