EXCLUSIVE: NTV Journalist Resigns, Next Move Revealed

NTV news anchor and reporter Anita Nkonge has announced her departure from Nation Media Group, having served three years at the mainstream media house.

Despite the bubbly journalist not announcing her next move, sources spoke to Viral Tea and revealed she would be joining the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

On Wednesday, August 25, Nkonge shared a series of tweets and photos narrating her journey at the media house while praising the opportunity given to her as a dream come true.

Nkonge rose from a young intern and through leaving a few years thereafter, she has morphed into a journalist with a soothing voice that viewers have grown to love.

"I am grateful for the lessons, the impactful stories I managed to do and the people I met in the midsts of it all. To my colleagues and editors, thank you for what has been an amazing and momentous chapter in my life. Really excited for the new chapter and new beginning," she wrote in one of her tweets.

Despite serving as the station's reporter, she found herself in the thick of presenting news bulletins like a typical high-profile news anchor and has interviewed the top personalities in the country including Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.

"To my colleagues and editors, thank you for what has been an amazing and momentous chapter in my life. Really excited for the new chapter and new beginning," she concluded.

Nkonge, unbeknownst to many, worked for Royal Media Services and had at some scenarios reported for Citizen TV. She has a journalism degree from the University of Kent in the United Kingdom (UK).

She covered news features on education, health, and lifestyle and also did a documentary on the emergence of grime music in the UK.

Her exit comes in the wake of the station's major shake-up ahead of the biggest test for all media houses, the 2022 General Elections.

Recently, NTV raided KTN and emerged with media personality Ben Kitili, who beforehand had served at the Standard Media Group for eight years.

Sources related to the matter had told Viral Tea that Kitili quit on Tuesday, July 27, and will join the Nation Media Group TV station as its News Editor.

Kitili in his new role will be in charge of the NTV newsroom, improving news coverage at the station as well as guiding anchors.

At KTN, Kitili hosted a political show (Inside Politics) every Sunday from 11 am to 1 pm where he interviewed political leaders across the divide. Additionally, he anchored prime-time news every Tuesday on its show dubbed Newsline
