Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Paul Ongili, alias Babu Owino on Sunday, January 2 dismissed appearing in a viral video that showed a group of women fighting each other during the Konshens concert held on Friday, December 31.

The clip shared all over social media platforms showed the women who had burst into an all-out physical altercation at the VIP section of the highly-anticipated concert held at the Carnivore Grounds in Nairobi.

With reasons behind the frenzied confrontation unclear at the time of publishing, a group of revellers were forced to separate the warring women who were preparing for another bout.

During the scuffle, a man was captured throwing one of the women off the fight scene and many Kenyans On Twitter had inquired as well as assumed it was the lawmaker.

However, Owino denied even attending the concert, saying that he spent the new year with his wife around the same time the Jamaican dancehall artist took to the stage.

He also urged those who were in attendance at the concert to also confirm that he was not there.

“With due respect,I was not at the Konshens’ party, and the man purported to be me in the video doing rounds is NOT me. The time Konshens was performing I was also performing on my wife and she can attest to this.

“People at the Konshens’ party should also confirm that I was not there,” he stated.

Also known by his real name Garfield Spence, Konshens’ concert was a crowd puller, drawing thousands of Kenyans who have grown completely fond of his music that has dominated reggae waves over the years.

It was staged on December 31 as a way of ushering in the new year 2022, with revellers joining millions around the world in dancing the night away. It was also streamed through a local media channel to others watching at home who couldn’t make it to the event.

Jamaican dancehall artiste Charly Black was a surprise performer in the event that had the likes of Fena Gitu, Khaligraph Jones and Sauti Sol among others, having joined his companion on stage with his event going down in another venue in the city.

However, among its major drawbacks was the altercation between comedian Eric Omondi and musician Bien-Aimé Baraza which almost escalated to a physical brawl.

Bien confronted Omondi, referring his plight for Kenyan musicians to perform last during concerts. However, he countered by saying that it did not matter the order of the performance as long as the artists paid for what they are worth.

“Eric you’re stupid, who performs last doesn’t matter, I’ve been paid a lot of money to be here,” he fired back.

It was among the many verbal squabbles between the two personalities which began after Omondi launched a daring complaint towards the Kenyan music industry back in November 2021.
