Inside The Luxury, Hollywood Life Of CS Amina Mohamed’s Daughter

Spread the love

When Sports CS Amina Mohamed’s daughter Firyal Nur Al Hossain shared an emotional tribute to her father, Khalid Hossain Ahmed who passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at the Karen Hospital, Nairobi, many sought to know exactly who she was and her life story.

Firyal shared her tribute at the time on her Instagram story, mourning her late father as a pillar in her life and adding that she was lost without him.

“You are my moon, my sun, my universe, my beginning, my end. Without you I am lost daddy,” she wrote.

The model has been based in the United States (US), but if her Instagram profile indicates anything, she has been frequenting Kenyan territory, appearing most recently at the Kip Keino Classic at Kasarani, Nairobi on Saturday, May 7.

“I was living in New York at the time, and I had to move back to Kenya within 24 hours because things in the city got bad really quick, as we all know. So I was faced with the challenge of packing up my life within a short amount of time and choosing what went with me and what stayed behind.

“I ended up taking all of my super essential pieces, bodysuits, leggings, and pieces I had a love connection to, pieces with sentimental value,” she told Industrie Africa in a recent interview.

In the US, she worked as a Brand and Culture Manager at Gucci, an Italian high-end luxury fashion house based in Florence, Italy and home to one of the biggest luxury fashion brands in the world. Its product lines include handbags, ready-to-wear, footwear, and accessories, makeup, fragrances, and home decoration.

She held that position for five years, having begun with Special Projects worldwide for one year in Italy before concentrating on North America where she developed and executed a regional Special Projects and Made-to-Measure strategy in North America.

She also exceeded all financial/Key Performance Indicator (KPI) targets to meet Return On Investment (ROI) goals for Worldwide Headquarters initiatives and coordinated Special Events in focus markets to coincide with the global cultural calendar (Art Basel, Tribeca Film Festival, Oscars, LACMA, NBA All-Stars, TIFF, etc.).

Before that, Nur worked as an Operations Manager & Executive Assistant to Direction at Swenergy S.A & Holt Global Ltd between 2007 and 2008 before co-founding a non-profit organisation called Badili Kenya in 2010 with a focus on community awareness, literacy, civic education, and enlightening Kenyan youth on issues affecting their lives.

She acted as the company director for two years until 2012. During the same year, she also had a brief stint as an assistant stylist at Love Magazine for a period of one month.

Between September 2012 and April 2013, Nur interned at the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) for three months and an additional five months as a hired consultant at the UNEP offices in Kenya.

In 2013, she founded her own clothing line and brand, NUR, with the aim of becoming an internationally renowned bespoke African brand.

Her clothing collection ranges from khanga shorts and cotton shirts to a blend of Ethiopian fabrics and some exotic pieces. She got her big break in 2014 when her designs drew the attention of Hollywood stars Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.

Nur met the duo during the Paris Fashion Week in 2014 where they loved her NUR designs so much that they placed orders for a few pieces.

“Kanye and Kim Kardashian fell for my designs in Paris. My vision is to establish a flagship store here and make our products affordable to the Kenyan market,” Nur stated after affirming that she made her mark in Europe and America.

Her work has also been featured in top magazines including Zele, Pattern Recognition, LA Fashion, Zen and Fantastic Fall.

The model doesn’t keep as much of a low profile as her late father but with less of her details in the spotlight, she can traverse different locations across the country and around the world unnoticed, unlike the children of Kenya’s elite class who can be easily recognised from a kilometre away.

Her LinkedIn profile goes on to indicate that she studied at the International School of Geneva in Switzerland and graduated with a High School diploma in 2007.

Nur has not used her mother’s reputation as a member of the Cabinet to scale up her career, but she did follow in her footsteps. She graduated from the United States International University- Africa (USIU) with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations between 2008 and 2013.

Nur later proceeded to attend the Università Bocconi in Milan, Italy and graduated with a Master’s degree in Fashion Direction – Brand & Retail Management between 2016 and 2017.

In terms of her relationship life, she is one who prefers to keep that away from the spotlight. At one point, she was rumoured to be dating President Uhuru Kenyatta’s son, Muhoho Kenyatta, who is also a fashion enthusiast.

But no dating rumour could come as wild as this: In November 2020, Nur made headlines after she was alleged to be dating Hollywood actor Michael B. Jordan. Reports had indicated that Jordan and Nur met through mutual friends in the fashion industry during the time he was shooting for his campaign.

His engagement (liking and commenting) on her Instagram page led many fans to believe that the two were a pair before Jordan announced that he was dating Lori Harvey, an American model, entrepreneur, and socialite who is the adoptive daughter of TV presenter and comedian Steve Harvey.
