Singer Juliet Ayub, alias Jovial hit back at critics who tore into her following a video that went viral showing her dancing with Citizen TV news anchor Rashid Abdalla during his 40th birthday party on Sunday night, May 9.

In the video, Jovial was seen swooning Abdalla with a magical performance during the party held at an unspecified location in the coastal city of Mombasa.

Abdalla, dressed in a white Kanzu, was getting into the groove generated by Jovial, who was hired to perform for him on his special day. She sang Mi Amor, a single that features Tanzanian fast-rising Bongo Fleva recording artist, singer, and songwriter, Marioo.

Just before Abdalla could go further into the melodious trance by Jovial, his wife, Citizen TV anchor Lulu Hassan popped out of nowhere into the view of the camera lens and briefly…and passionately, danced with her man before walking back to a cheerful crowd.

In a statement on her Instagram page on Thursday, May 12, the Pita Nawe hitmaker explained that she was only doing her job as an entertainer at the time but a lot of netizens, especially women, took the clip the wrong way and threw spears unprovoked on a harmless act.

“The insults on the trending video of me at work…okay, I’m just seeing women projecting their insecurities on an innocent act.

Mumepata kisababu cha kufungua roho (You have found a reason to catch feelings). You can tell they are dealing with a lot in their homes. The ‘couple are my bosses those who know the series know better,” she ranted.

While urging the women to fix their internal matters, Jovial noted that she was a musician hired to entertain her fans for the goodness of being paid well.

“Fix your homes and stop using me as an excuse. I’m an entertainer and I was doing my job. By the way, I was paid very good money. Cheers to more,” she added.

Lulu, on the other hand, seemingly unperturbed by the video, and the fact that she had interrupted the dance between Rashid and Jovial, congratulated the singer for a job well done.

“I can’t thank you enough, Jovial. You are destined for greatness, apart from being your bosses we are your number one fans.

“Keep on flying our flag high, we love you sister. Keep on keeping on, Vocals 100, Performance 100, Presence 100,” Lulu Hassan gushed on her show on Instagram.

That was not the only fun Abdalla had. According to videos from close friends who attended the party, he could be seen kneeling on the floor surrounded by a bevvy of beauties who threw the currency notes at him.

Musician Zuchu was the other guest performer at the party which was attended by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho. Other guests who graced the event included Citizen TV journalists Faizah Wanjiru, Monica Kiragu, Emmanuel Igunza, Wangechi Muriuki and Hassan Mugambi.

Former Maria actress Wanjiku Stephens and renowned chef, Ali Mandhry were also the invited guests.
