A screenshot has surfaced online of a Facebook post belonging to Innocent Kalio Makokha, the main suspect behind the murder of university student Christine Ambani.

The Mt. Kenya University student in the since-deleted post mourned his lover Ambani, a student at Kiriri Women’s University of Science & Technology, noting that her death had an impact on him.

He had rebuked her killers, stating that they will never know peace. This was despite the fact that he was nabbed on Tuesday, July 27 by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives on account of being reportedly responsible for Ambani’s murder.

“This is more than worse to me. Rest easy my close person. They’ll never have peace,” he wrote in the post that has since gone viral.

On Sunday, July 25, Kalio made another post advising his followers on the social media platform to not be prisoners of their past.

“Never be a prisoner of your past. It was just a lesson, not a life sentence,” he said.

Ambani was found dead and her body sprawled on a bed in a guest room in Githurai, Nairobi. The 23-year-old third-year student who was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration was found with her neck bearing deep stab wounds.

On the fateful day, Ambani had left the Mwihoko based University in the morning, to meet her boyfriend in Githurai town, Kalio Makokha, the suspect, 15 kilometers away.

“Described by her friends as charming and outgoing, she was happy before the meeting and looking forward to the date but she wasn’t aware it was a trap set up by her boyfriend Makokha,” read a statement by the detectives.

After the couple met up in Githurai town, they booked themselves into a guest room in an arrangement that according to the management would only last for a few hours. The detectives had established that their arrangement was because the semester’s Continuous Assessment Tests were being administered at the university and Ambani was due to sit for a paper that afternoon.

The deceased had left the college accompanied by a friend, who was to have her hair plaited in Githurai, as she waited for her. However, Makokha would have different plans.

“He emerged from the room later and topped up the earlier paid amount, to last them for the entire night,” they added.

Detectives established that it was on that fateful night that Makokha brutally murdered Ambani, by stabbing her on the neck savagely and left her bleeding to death.
