The legendary anchor of the state broadcaster breathed his last on Friday, October 8, just after he had taken his lunch.

The 67-year-old, who was famous for the Kiswahili news show Dira ya Dunia on KBC, was on official duty in Mombasa for an interview with Alice Tabu for his Dira ya Magwiji feature.

Family members revealed to the media that his death was a shock to them considering that he had shared meals with friends on Thursday and Friday.

Following his meal on Friday, Muhsin retreated to sleep but unfortunately did not wake up.

“He had come to Mombasa for work, for a KBC programme. Yesterday (Thursday), we ate lunch together and today he ate with his friends. He was stable all through,” his brother, Hafidh Muhsin, stated.

Muhsin will be buried on Saturday, October 9, 2021. His family has announced that he will be laid to rest at the Kariakor Muslim Cemetery.

Viral Tea has learnt that his body was transported to Nairobi overnight.

The burial of the 67-year-old will be conducted in strict accordance with Muslim burial customs and only men will be allowed to go and see his body at the gravesite.

Tributes have been pouring in since Friday, with journalists, political leaders and Kenyans entirely praising Muhsin for his unwavering talent, mastery of the Swahili language and charisma.

State House spokesperson Kanze Dena, who coincidentally worked for KBC as a news anchor for six years, revealed that Muhsin checked on her every so often, adding that the last call between the two was after the station relaunched four months ago.

She praised him as a character who inspired her to become the great journalist she was before eventually transitioning to work for the highest office in the land.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti, through a statement via the DCI’s social media accounts, took the news of the Swahili maestro’s passing with great sadness. He eulogised Muhsin as one of his close friends, and one of the DCI’s greatest partners who embraced and promoted closer ties between the sleuths and members of the public.

“The broadcast legend who has worked as an anchor for three decades has recently been at the forefront in promoting our #FichuakwaDCI tip line, to encourage members of the public to report crime,” they stated in part.

KBC anchor Shiksha Arora had shared a photo she took with him during the station’s relaunch while expressing sadness over his passing.

In a message of condolence to Muhsin’s family, friends and relatives, President Uhuru Kenyatta praised the iconic journalist who had become a household name and television icon and utilized his immense talent as a broadcast journalist to mentor generations of fine broadcasters during his many years at the national broadcaster.

“He was loyal to the core, steadfast and highly committed to his profession and employer KBC. Mr Muhsin was a true Kenyan trailblazer and role model whose recent return to KBC after years of rest, was an act of selflessness and love for his profession and country,” the President eulogised.
