Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Caretaker Committee head of secretariat Linda Oguttu could be heading back to the Standard Media Group (SMG) having taken a sabbatical leave on December 19, 2021.

With the new job, sources at the media house had alleged that she was given a choice to remain working for SMG or serve at the FKF caretaker committee, which submitted its report to Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed.

Inside the report, proposals were made on how to better the football fraternity in the country after the country was slapped with an indefinite suspension by the World Football Governing Body FIFA.

“Six months are over. The FKF caretaker committee is set to give its report to the Sports CS today. Then we go back to where we came from. Don’t criticise, it’s early morning,” she tweeted on Tuesday, May 10.

Among the proposals given was that the FKF constitution is amended to comply with the Constitution of Kenya as well as the Sports Act. Additionally, elections should be conducted in compliance with the Constitution of Kenya, the Sports Act and the new FKF constitution.

The committee further recommended that the running of the leagues should be tasked to a limited company for proper and efficient operation.

“That the FKF hands over the running of the leagues to a Limited Company for the efficient and effective running of the leagues.

“That the Ministry of Sports, Heritage and Culture adopt the report on the commercialization of football as a sport including the appointment of a Director of Football who is to be a government employee,” the committee said.

It was also recommended that the Sports Registrar and FKF work in harmony to ensure that clubs and branches comply with the provisions of Section 46 of the Sports Act and the FIFA club licensing rules on registration.

Other recommendations include:

1.That the FKF adopts a more transparent and accountable governance system that involves the disclosure of information including its sources of funding (FIFA, donors, Government etc) to its members and that these funds be utilized for nurturing/development of sports.

2. That the FKF digitalizes its processes by adopting an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

3. That the FKF conducts regular workshops for players, club medics and referees to promote awareness of sports science including nutrition, anti-doping, injuries and treatment as well as endorse the importance of medical insurance for all players.

4. FKF ensures that all leagues currently being played by men are also introduced for women players. These include NSL & DIV 2. And FKF introduces leagues for under 13, 15 and 17 for boys and girls in liaison with the Primary and Secondary Schools Sports Associations.

5. That the government ensures that all sports facilities that are used for football meet international standards as stipulated by CAF and FIFA.

6. That the appointments of Coaches, technical persons and match officials be on clear contract terms.

7. That FKF introduces beach and futsal leagues.

Oguttu announced on social media that she had begun to take her leave, but did not state for how long.

Other members of the secretariat were Dr Walter Ongeti, Rashid Khamisi Ali Shedu, Hon. Rachael Kamweru and Robin Toskin, another KTN presenter. Toskin is currently the Head of Sport’s desk at the Standard Group, and hosts Sports Chat, on KTN News every Monday morning.

CS Amina stated that she decided to disband the FKF after its officials failed to account for the funds it had been receiving from the government.
