National airline Kenya Airways (KQ) has announced a drop in air ticket fares, meaning passengers intending to use the airline can enjoy discounted prices on flights to both local and international destinations.

In a promotional email seen by Viral Tea, the flagship carrier announced discounts up to 20 per cent for one day only; however, that is on Wednesday, July 2.

"This isn’t just a sale — it’s your passport to freedom. The wait is officially over! Kenya Airways is serving up the MID-YEAR HOT DEAL SALE, your golden ticket to travel more, pay less, and experience the world like never before," the airline stated in part.

"For just 24 hours on 2nd July 2025, you can grab up to 20% off on flights to and from select destinations around the globe. Whether you’re plotting a city break, a family reunion, or that once-in-a-lifetime getaway, this is your chance to fly at prices that are basically stealing."

This discount offer affects three destinations in Kenya and 13 across Africa, including countries such as Rwanda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), among others.

These African destinations include Kigali, Maputo, Addis Ababa, Bujumbura, Entebbe, Kilimanjaro, Zambia, Abidjan, Seychelles, Kinshasa, Comoros, Antananarivo and Lubumbashi, DRC, all set to enjoy a 20 per cent discount.

Locally, the discount targets Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kisumu. It is worth noting that they are arguably KQ's main domestic routes, and these will enjoy a 15 per cent discount.

Passengers purchasing tickets on July 2 will get to travel between then and September 28, 2025.

“Ready, set, book! Our 24-Hour Mid-Year Sale has arrived, and trust us, this is no ordinary deal. For just one day, enjoy unbeatable fares to your favourite destination. Feeling that mid-year slump? It’s time to shake things up and treat yourself to an escape with us,” KQ added.

The airline encouraged customers to use the promo code ‘HOTDEAL’ to unlock the discount. However, it clarified that the offer excludes the “Best Buy Economy” and “Business Lite” fare classes.

The discounted rates apply only to the net fare, so travellers will still be responsible for standard taxes and extra surcharges.

The deal covers both one-way and return flights, but only on routes exclusively operated by Kenya Airways. Additionally, the airline warned that any ticket changes outside the standard terms and conditions will attract market fare penalties, fare differences, and extra change fees.

On Tuesday, April 8, KQ officially launched its New Distribution Capability (NDC)-sourced content for Kenyan travel sellers via the Amadeus Travel Platform, marking a major shift in how tickets, offers, and extras are served up.

This rollout follows KQ’s adoption of Altéa NDC, Amadeus’ next-gen solution designed to give airlines full control over fare offerings, promotions, and customer experience across digital channels. In short, Kenya Airways is ditching outdated distribution tech and going full throttle into the future of personalised, flexible, and fast flight sales.
