LSK Issues Demand To DCI After Murder of High Court Lawyer

The Council of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has expressed its sorrow and grief following the brutal murder of Boaz A. Nyakeri, an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

In their statement issued on Sunday, December 5, Boaz was attacked and stabbed by unknown persons at around 5.30am on Saturday, December 4 at a place near Masaai Lodge in Rongai, Kajiado County.

LSK revealed that the assailants who were alleged to have been trailing him, stabbed him on the neck but did not steal anything from him, leaving a lot of questions as to the motive behind the gruesome attack.

Nyakeri, was taken to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in Nairobi where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The case has been reported at Ole Kasasi Police Station in Ongata Rongai.

LSK condemned the murder of Nyakeri and urged the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti to bring the suspects responsible to book.

“The Council condemns in the strongest terms possible the brutal murder of Advocate Boaz  and calls on the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to expedite investigations in order to bring the culprits to book,” it urged.

It added how the nature of work by the advocates as well as those in defence of human rights and lawyers place them at greater risk of attacks by adversaries.

“The responsibility placed on advocates as court officials and human rights defenders place them at a relatively higher risk of possible attack by adversaries,” it went on.

LSK urged the government to provide security to all members of the legal profession so as to safeguard them from any form of harm.

“It is in this regard that we call on the Government to put in place strategies to ensure that advocates, magistrates, judges as well as all court officials are provided with adequate security and protection from any form of harm, threats, intimidation and attacks that may arise as a result of the nature of their work.

“Additionally, the Council is concerned with the increased cases of insecurity in the Country. We call on the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government to heighten the security apparatus within the Country especially during the festive season,” LSK added.
