Former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya has been reassigned to the Office of the President (OOP) headquarters in Nairobi after he resigned on Wednesday, January 12.
A press release by Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, on Wednesday, revealed that Natembeya was moved to Uhuru’s office to complete his 30-day period. He had resigned to focus on running for Trans Nzoia governor.

He was replaced by Makueni County Commissioner Mohammed Ahmed Maalim in the position.
Other changes announced by PS Kibicho include William Kangethe Thuku who was announced as the new Nairobi Regional Commissioner having served in the OOP.
James Kyalo Kianda, who was the Nairobi Regional Commissioner has been transferred to North Eastern.
Narok County Commissioner Evans Mong’are Achoki was promoted to a Regional Commissioner of the Eastern region.
Isaiah Aregai Nakoru, who was the Eastern Regional Commissioner, has been transferred to Western Region as the Commissioner.
Western Regional Commissioner, Esther Wamuyu Maina was moved to the Central region where she will serve under the same role.
Wilfred Agage Nyangwanga and Nicodemus M. Ndalana were promoted to the OOP having served as Commissioners of Central and North Eastern respectively.
Natembeya revealed his plans to resign on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, having held the post for more than 25 years.
“I will today (Wednesday) formally announce my resignation to focus on politics as l seek the backing of residents of Trans Nzoia to become their governor,” Natembeya revealed.
Speaking to the press in Nakuru, Natembeya thanked Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i, and his Principal secretary, Karanja Kibicho for according him the support during his time as the Rift Valley Commissioner. He also thanked his family for enduring the time he was away on duty during his tenure as the County Commissioner.
Natembeya becomes one of the first high-ranking officials in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration to resign to focus on politics
The 50-year-old became the youngest regional commissioner of the Rift Valley region. He draws his stern tone from former Internal Security minister John Michuki, whom he served as a personal assistant for four years.
