NTV’s Lofty Matambo Graduates With First-Class Degree, 14 Years Later

Announcing his milestone via Instagram on Wednesday, November 24, Matambo recounted his long and dreary journey which had lots of highs and lows as he set on his quest to pursue a dream career in media.

NTV Swahili news anchor Lofty Matambo is a proud holder of a first-class honours Bachelor’s degree in Communications in Public Relations, having graduated from St Paul’s University in Limuru, Kiambu County.

Announcing his milestone via Instagram on Wednesday, November 24, Matambo recounted his long and dreary journey which had lots of highs and lows as he set on his quest to pursue a dream career in media.

Celebrating his achievement which came after more than a decade, he remembered how dejected he was when he failed to join campus despite scoring highly in his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

He further did not share photos of himself in a graduation gown and was worried about his future ahead.

“My peers graduated in the year 2007, I had nothing to celebrate then. I felt hopeless with shattered dreams since I had not joined campus despite getting a clean B(Plain) in my KCSE. So I did not post pictures with a gown or do a party.

“I knew my fate of becoming a lower class Kenyan had been sealed,” he narrated.

The news anchor who has since firmly established himself in the echelons of the Swahili media industry added that he was first forced to pursue a Diploma in Medical Lab Technology, a course he never liked.

On his way to the top, Matambo began making a name for himself and those close to him pushed him to apply for stints in bigger organisations in bigger positions. He however declined the huge offers out of the fact that he lacked grounds legitimate enough to explore bigger options.

“…the problem came in when I made a small name/brand in the Media Industry and colleagues, friends, family members, bosses started pushing me for bigger positions in various organisations.

“I always declined such huge offers and pieces of advice to spread my wings wider in the industry for one simple reason; I felt undeserved too much favoured,” he noted.

However, the world had a different view towards him as he later learnt and after years of struggle, he was pushed to pursue academic qualifications in communication, a course that tossed him into a journey he stated he was proud of.

“Immediately I was done, even before the ceremony, overwhelmingly new doors and opportunities came knocking. Today, ladies and gentlemen, 14 years since my peers celebrated their graduation, I celebrate this 1st class honours as an absolute honour to my God who has made it possible,” he saluted.

He concluded by thanking his family, friends and colleagues for pushing him to start and keep going. He also praised the university, touting it as the best in the region.

Today, he anchors the 7 pm news on NTV alongside Fridah Mwaka, both of whom were poached from KTN.
