NTV’s Mark Masai, Smriti Vidyarthi Mark 13 Years Together On Screen

NTV shared a post on social media commemorating the 13 years they have been anchoring together to bring news of importance and interest to Kenyans.

Nation Media Group (NMG) on Wednesday, October 6 celebrated Mark Masai and Smriti Vidyarthi, two of the media house’s longest serving NTV news anchors who have ruled screens since 2008.

NTV shared a post on social media commemorating the 13 years they have been anchoring together to bring news of importance and interest to Kenyans.

“13 years ago today, Mark Masai and Smriti Vidyarthi went on-air together for the first time. Happy workversary,” NTV noted.

The two journalists took to their respective social media handles to celebrate each other for their unbreakable chemistry that manifested during their time at the TV station.

“How it started with partner Smirti Vidyarthi on our first time. You are more than a colleague,” Masai stated.

On her part, Vidyarthi termed the 13 years as far from easy but they pulled through them successfully, as she encouraged their fans to follow their aspirations and dreams.

“We are all destined for something! 13 years at NTV Kenya. Who would have thought! But we’re still here for a reason. It’s been good, and we’re grateful. Believe in yourself, just like we did,” she tweeted.

Scores of fellow journalists and fans took to the comments to praise the duo for their talented work on screen.

Others did take notice of Masai’s oversized suit that he wore during the duo’s first broadcast, despite him warning his fans to tone down on the comments regarding the suit which was a fashion trend at the time.

Champagne ilibaki bro? (Was there any leftover champagne?) Plus am coming for that suit,” tweeted colleague Leon Lidigu.

Vidyarthi recalled in 2020 how she much she missed hugging Masai at the office, adding that following confirmation of the first COVID-19 case in Kenya, she was unable to see him as they were allocated different shifts.

She went on to reveal that before COVID-19, she had developed a habit of hugging him daily when she got to work and cracked jokes before they anchored the 9 pm news.

“From seeing this guy 5 days a week, hugging him upon getting to work each day, busting jokes with him ahead of many bulletins, delivering the national news with him every 9pm…To NOT seeing him for FOUR MONTHS!”

“(We’re in separate shifts, thanks #covid19). You cannot blame me for just dying to hug him, when we met at the office today. Sadly, the hug did not happen (again, thanks Covid),” she narrated on Instagram.
