The accident occurred on Wednesday, July 21, after the plane skidded off the runway at Elwak airstrip in Gedo, near Mandera, damaging its propeller and landing gear.

The Kenyan aircraft operated under Reg 5Y -GRS, made an emergency landing at Burahache closed airstrip veering off the runway section.

One week ago, one person was killed in a light aircraft crash that occurred on Monday, July 12 in the hilly part of Jerusalem area, Ndabibi, Naivasha, Nakuru County.

The aircraft was monitoring the presence of locusts who have been invading Kenya for the past year. Three people were on board, including the pilot.

One person died at the scene while two, who sustained burn wounds, were rushed to Ndabibi health center amid plans for their evacuation to a fully equipped hospital.

Deputy county commissioner Kisilu Mutua, who went to the scene of the crash, stated that bad weather may have been the cause.

"It is too early to establish the cause of the crash but, generally, we had bad weather for the better part of the day," said the administrator to the Nation.

He stated that they were waiting for relevant authorities to commence investigations and issue a full report on the incident.

"Our immediate task is to secure the crash scene as we await for a team from the Civil Aviation Authority to start the probe," added Mutua.

The scene of the plane crash has thick vegetation, which made access to the scene a huge task for responders.

The accident came after a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) chopper crashed in Kajiado County on Thursday, June 24, killing 10 soldiers and injuring 13.

The aircraft went down in flames at Ol Tepesi area in Ngong, according to a video shared on social media.
