Central Police Station Officer Arrested Over Albert Ojwang Murder
He's expected to be charged with murder under Sections 203 and 204 of the Penal Code, linked to the death of Albert Ojwang.

A police officer from Central Police Station has been arrested over the murder of teacher and X influencer, Albert Ojwang.
According to a police report obtained by Viral Tea, the officer, PC James Mukhwana, was taken into custody at Capitol Hill Police Station by officers drawn from the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).
"Please be informed that No. 260950 PC James Mukhwana of Central Police Station, Nairobi was arrested today, 12/06/2025 and placed in custody at Capitol Hill police station by officers from IAU and IPOA.

"He is to be charged with the offence of murder contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the penal code, following the death of one Albert Ojwang. IPOA and IAU dealing. More details to follow," the report read in part.
His role in the murder of Ojwang is yet to be determined. This arrest comes moments after hundreds of Kenyans took to the streets of Nairobi to protest over the murder of Ojwang, threatening to overshadow the reading of the 2025/26 budget, which went ahead in the National Assembly, uninterrupted.
Hundreds of protesters were spread in small groups across Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD), with some throwing rocks at police who fired back with tear gas, while at least two cars were set alight. AFP reporters saw at least three people wounded by rubber bullets, with one taken to the hospital.
Albert Ojwang, 31, was arrested on June 7 in Homa Bay and taken over 400 kilometres to Nairobi. He was later found dead, with reports pointing to signs of torture and visible injuries.
The case has sparked public outrage and backlash from human rights groups and political figures.
On Monday, the United Opposition released a joint statement demanding the immediate arrest of Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat, accusing him of ordering Ojwang’s arrest in retaliation for a critical social media post.
They also urged authorities to provide witness protection for lower-ranking officers involved in the case, citing threats to their safety.
The IPOA is leading the investigation after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) called for a fast-tracked probe.
The arrest of Police Constable Mukhwana is seen as the first significant move toward holding individual officers accountable in this high-profile case.
Public and international pressure continues to build on the government to deliver full transparency and justice as the legal process unfolds.
