The former prime minister is on a three-day tour of the Mount Kenya region and has been making stops at Chaka, Naro Moru and Karatina towns, drawing crowds in all three of them.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga forced residents of Nyeri County to drop their businesses and throng in their massive numbers on Monday, September 27 to get a glimpse of him as he continues to set his agenda ahead of the 2022 General Elections.

“Raila na Mt. Kenya” were the banners carried by a section of the massive crowd in support of the ODM party leader to indicate that his influence spread out throughout the country.

Before commencing the tour navigating three towns, Raila had addressed the press in the company of governors Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru), Francis Kimemia (Nyandarua), James Nyoro (Kiambu), and Nderitu Mureithi (Laikipia).

Odinga outlined his economic plan for the region and assured that his government would sponsor monthly trade promotion meetings which will bring together government officials, ministries, exporters, researchers, education institutions, and trading companies.

This will be intended to exchange ideas, goals, and to improve coordination and mutual understanding between private and public sectors.

“During the grand coalition government, the round table with the private sector created a forum for the much-needed collaboration with the public sector. This enabled the two sectors to clear critical bottlenecks for the good of business and the nation,” Odinga stated.

Odinga is yet to stake his claim for the presidential seat in the 2022 showdown, but the developments post-BBI, which he has been propagating with President Uhuru Kenyatta, on top of the cross-country popularisation campaigns, have hinted to Kenyans that he is ready for another chance.

Both he and businessman Jimi Wanjigi will have a chance to contest the party’s presidential ticket as its National Elections Body (NEB) announced that it is set to open applications.

Both Wanjigi and Odinga will join Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and his Kakamega counterpart Wycliffe Oparanya in the race to determine who will bear the party’s flag come 2022.
