The mud-walled hotel was then unveiled on social media and it went viral with breakneck speed due to its name, which was a representative of the DP’s Economic Model.

Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday, November 2 paid a visit to the Bottom Up Hotel in North Mugirango, Nyamira County and was served by its owners who touted him as their biggest-ever customer.

DP Ruto had made a brief stopover at the hotel owned by Bwana Zachary Matunda for breakfast in the company of South Mugirango legislator, Silvanus Osoro.

The mud-walled hotel was then unveiled on social media and it went viral with breakneck speed due to its name, which was a representative of the DP’s Economic Model.

Matunda explained the reason for the name as a symbol of his family’s struggle to rebuild their life from the ground up after he lost his job.

Ruto and the other residents who accompanied him during the short stopover were served with tea and mandazi. Matunda’s surprise would soon follow as the DP offered a cash donation of Ksh100,000 to him and his wife to solve their woes.

“I am going to help you with Ksh100,000 so that you can sort yourself out. Give me the money (Ruto to his aide) so that we can help these people grow their hotel,” Ruto stated.

Matunda’s wife immediately thanked God for the Ksh100,000 donation as Matunda thanked the DP for the kind gratitude.

“The moment my work ended, we decided to start the hotel from scratch and decided to name it Bottom Up. We started selling tea and mandazi. I did not know that there was something like the bottom-up then,” he revealed.

After thanking God, Matunda’s wife turned to Ruto with excitement in her eyes on meeting the presidential candidate, adding that it was a dream come true to meet the DP.

After his breakfast, the couple took photos with the DP, which he shared on social media whilst thanking Matunda for hosting him at his hotel for breakfast.

“Thank you Zachary Matunda for the cup of tea at your Bottom-Up Hotel at Bomwagamo, North Mugirango, Nyamira County,” he tweeted.

The photo did elicit some reactions on social media, with netizens unsurprised of his visit to the hotel, further claiming that it was just for PR reasons.

Ruto has been hyping up his bottom-up economic model for the course of his presidential candidature as one that specialises in growing small businesses to their full potential through financial boosts.
