The photo was shared by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on his social media handles and showed the couple cuddling together in love, with the man since identified as Emmanuel Kipleting.

The photo was reported to have been the last sweet moments of Tirop in the hands of her lover who also doubles up as a coach.

The heartwarming photo showed the 25-year-old in the arms of the man and they were all smiles.

"Photo of slain Olympian, Agnes Tirop, cuddling with her husband – The same man who is suspected to have killed her!

"He has switched his phone off for a while. Sad," Sonko wrote.

Speaking to journalists, Keiyo South OCPD Tim Makori disclosed that parents of both Tirop and Kipleting went to the Iten Police Station on Wednesday morning.

They were following up on a report that was filed by the deceased's father the previous day, which indicated that her daughter was missing.

During their interaction with the police, Tirop's husband's parents stated that he had called them crying and asking for forgiveness. He, however, had not revealed to them what he had done wrong.

"Alarmed by the statements, police officers resulted to visiting their house. When they got inside, they found Tirop on the bed with blood all over. She had been stabbed on her neck," Makori stated.

Residents in the area told journalists that the 25-year-old and her husband had been having domestic squabbles for quite some time.

They suspected that Tirop had gone to take her belongings from the husband's house when the unfortunate turn of events took place.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased's husband could have been involved in her death.

"We are looking for him and are hoping that he can tell us what really transpired," he stated.

Tirop was found dead at her house with stab wounds in her abdomen, allegedly inflicted on by Kipleting.
