Sonko Goes After Bloggers Spreading Fake News About Uhuru

Taking to social media on Wednesday, November 24, Sonko faulted the blog for publishing a story that dragged the President into his viral Sonko Leaks expose involving the Kenyan Judiciary.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has accused a news blog website of spreading false information regarding President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Taking to social media on Wednesday, November 24, Sonko faulted the blog for publishing a story that dragged the President into his viral Sonko Leaks expose involving the Kenyan Judiciary.

He clarified that he had no recordings against the President and is in support of him in the war against corruption in the legal arm of the government.

He called upon the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to hunt down and arrest the owners of the website.

“Some characters are taking advantage of my exposé on the rot in the Kenyan Judiciary to divert attention by involving His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta in this. Please note I have no recordings against the President and I respect and support him in this fight against graft in the Judiciary. He is the Head of State and I respect him very much.

“I urge the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to move with speed and arrest the owners who are using diversionary tactics by involving the President,” Sonko said in his post.

To further assure of the arrest, he also offered members of the public Ksh300,000 in cash to anyone with information leading to the arrest of the owner.

“I’m also offering a reward of Ksh300,000 to anyone who will assist me with information leading to the arrest of the owner/admin of the blog,” he added.

The story was titled Big blow to Uhuru as Sonko says he has his recording, hints on when he will release it. Spot checks by Viral Tea as of Thursday, November 25 revealed that the article was pulled down.

Speaking to KTN News on Tuesday, November 23 regarding the expose, Sonko recounted his scenario whereby he saved residents of the South B estate in Nairobi from demolitions that were taking place at midnight. That forced him to put President Uhuru on speaker in order to scare off the government officials and over 400 police officers who were supervising the demolitions.

He claimed that he began taping private conversations when he ascended to the position of Nairobi mayor in 2017, which has aided his fight against corruption.

The former county boss further claimed that he was urged to record conversations in a bid to expose the crooks and cartels that he had inherited from the previous county government.

“It’s all worth it. I only record crooks and cartels. If you are my friend, you have nothing to be afraid of. But if you come to me with plans of stealing, I will expose you to everyone,” he warned.

“I haven’t always been recording people. When I became governor, I inherited a city that was known for corruption and sleaze. I had people come into my office, calling me trying to broker deals that would steal from the city.

“That is why I started recording people and exposing them. Soon, they were afraid of me and kept off stealing from the public,” he added.

Sonko added that he had nothing to lose, even as he is a man who is mired with court cases, hence he will keep recording the conversations and sharing them on social media to save Kenyans of all walks of life from being denied justice rightfully.
