TV47 Advertises CEO Job- How To Apply

A substantive CEO is expected to take over the station before the critical elections period where media houses put their best foot forward.

Fast-rising TV station TV47 has advertised the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) following the exit of Eugene Anangwe in June 2020.

The station, under Cape Media, has been under the leadership of former news anchor Abubakar Abdullahi, who was appointed as the CEO on acting capacity. 

A substantive CEO is expected to take over the station before the critical elections period where media houses put their best foot forward. The 2022 General Elections will be TV47’s first since being founded by Mount Kenya University (MKU) founder Simon Gicharu in June 2019.

Speaking to Viral Tea, insiders at Cape Media revealed that Abdullahi, the acting CEO is still eligible to apply and stands a chance of retaining the top job. 

TV47, under Cape Media, prides itself as an uprising TV station targeting the 18-24 age bracket. It has studios in Nairobi and Mombasa, with the Mombasa studio described as one of the biggest and most advanced in the country.

Duties and responsibilities 

According to a local newspaper advertisement seen by Viral Tea, the successful candidate will be tasked with the following: 

  1. Overall growth and transformation of the station in keeping with the dynamic nature of the Kenyan media industry. 
  2. Communicating on behalf of the company, with the Board of Directors, government entities and the public 
  3. Leading the development of the company’s short- and long-term strategy 
  4. Creating and implementing the company/organization’s vision and mission 
  5. Evaluating work of other executive leaders within the company, including directors and heads of departments. 
  6. Formulating and assessing strategies of maintaining the TV station’s competitive and continuous growth. 
  7. Ensuring the company maintains high social responsibility and professionalism in its day to day business 
  8. Assessing risks to the company and ensuring they are monitored and minimised. 
  9. Setting strategic goals to ensure they are measurable and describable 
  10. Coordination of overall staff management, talent development, career advancement and training. 
  11. Ensuring compliance with the regulatory and legal requirements and manage challenges as they arise. 

Professional and academic requirements include: 

  1. At least five years of work experience at a management level in a fast-paced media or production house. 
  2. A master’s degree in either mass communication, business administration, journalism or any other related field from a recognised university. 
  3. Excellent managerial and interpersonal skills 
  4. Ability to make independent and sound decisions relating to the day to day running of the station. 
  5. Short courses in new media and professional media management are an added advantage.
