Twist On Damaris Muthee’s Relationship With Murder Suspect

Sebastian Mutua, the father of the late Kenyan-born Bahraini athlete, Damaris Muthee Mutua, has come clean about her relationship with Eskinder Hailemaryam Folie, alias Koki Fai, who had allegedly confessed to killing her.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, April 21, Mutua dismissed claims that Muthee had a boyfriend, clarifying that she was married to one Felix Ngila, whom she sired a six-year-old son.

He added that his family will not rest until they seek answers regarding the cold-blooded murder, adding that it was a serious matter that warranted the attention of all parents who sent their children to foreign lands.

“My daughter was already married to Felix Ngila, who is based in Qatar, and it was wrong to term the suspect as her lover. I am calling on members of the public to desist from killing their fellow human beings whenever there is an argument, but use dialogue and have respect for the sanctity of life.

“We will not be at peace until we are told why my daughter was killed in that manner. This is a serious matter and it applies to all parents who have sent their children to distant areas, to learn of their untimely demise,” he said.

Muthee’s father-in-law, Josphat Ndeti, added that the athlete left Machakos County on Friday, April 15 having flown back from Angola where she was on an athletics assignment.

He went on to disclose a piece of land she had bought with the intention of building a house beginning in August this year.

“She left her Machakos home on Friday after jetting back from Angola, where she participated in a road race, and I called her the following day, inquiring about the injury which had bogged her down for over two years.

“She had big dreams and had even bought a one-acre piece of land and wanted to build a house starting in the month of August. She even wanted to buy me a car, but now all has been dashed because of someone who took advantage of her before taking her life,” he recalled.

Ndeti accused the suspect of taking all of Muthee’s possessions including her identity cards (IDs) as well as bank documents and called on the Bahraini and Kenyan governments to ensure the property she worked hard to get is traced and handed over to the family to help take care of her child.

He also took issue with the government for allowing unregistered persons to come and stay in Kenya in the name of training, but who then prey on naïve women.

“The other time it was Agnes Tirop, and the manner in which she was killed is just the same as that of Muthee. Some cartels are out there to mint money from innocent young girls and the government should urgently address the matter,” he said.

Autopsy Reveals What Killed Muthee

Meanwhile, Keiyo North Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer Andalo Munga revealed that an autopsy report showed that Muthee was killed by general strangulation; a matter that led to asphyxiation and eventual death.

Following a three-hour post-mortem conducted by a team of pathologists from the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, and Iten, at the county referral hospital’s funeral home in the presence of the victim’s family, stomach content samples were taken for toxicology analysis to check if there were some chemicals administered to her.

Ndeti further revealed that the body will be moved to Machakos as burial arrangements start at the family’s Katisaa village. He asked the government to assist with the burial expenses.

The athletics fraternity, led by three-time London marathon champion Mary Keitany, has since led the country in condemning the killing, part of gender-based violence among athletes which has been on an alarming rise.

As for the suspect, the International Criminal Police Organization, or Interpol is working with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Foreign Affairs ministry to hunt him down.
