Deputy President William Ruto had a tough time driving one of the school buses on Monday, October 4 that he donated to three learning institutions in Kisii County.

He climbed aboard the bus, taking control of the driver’s seat as he tried to move the bus, much to raucous cheers from the crowd.

However, in a video shared online, the DP’s attempts to move the bus were failing with each passing moment.

South Mugirango Member of Parliament, Sylvanus Osoro had to help him change gears which had proved too difficult for the second most powerful man on the land.

He did pick himself up and managed to drive the bus he donated to Bogichoncho Secondary School during his three-day tour of Kisii County.

DP Ruto had addressed residents of Etago Market after the launch of infrastructure development projects at Bogichoncho, Nyakembene and Kiabigoria Secondary Schools in South Mugirango, Kisii County.

The DP also addressed parents and learners who came to welcome him and promised to build classrooms for schools in the area.

He stated that his first priority for the country was the resolution of the bad state of the economy and the employment crisis.

Also present alongside Osoro were Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, MPs Mathias Robi, Shadrack Mose, Alfah Miruka, Joash Nyamoko, former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara, a host of MCAs and other local leaders.

Though not afraid of trying his skills behind the wheel, the DP did lose five of his drivers on a day where he saw his security downgraded.

Speaking to K24 Digital on Friday, August 27, the deputy president’s spokesperson, Emmanuel Talam, revealed that the drivers withdrawn were police officers attached to the transport team.

“Those who have been withdrawn are five trained police officers who are in the driving team.

“However, three of the recalled drivers have already been told to get back to work by Monday,” he clarified at the time.

The changes came a day after the Deputy President lost his security detail; General Service Unit (GSU) guards attached to his residence in Karen.
