What You Need To Be Patience Nyange’s Running Mate

Taita Taveta gubernatorial aspirant Patience Nyange has invited interested applicants for the position of Deputy Governor for the county.

The former Media Council of Kenya (MCK) member noted that an advert was shared though low-key but a number of Kenyans had urged her to share on social media platforms for purposes of public participation.

Nyange announced on Wednesday, May 11 that her campaign team under the hashtag #AminaMama is looking for suitable candidates to take up the role, adding that six candidates have so far been interviewed.

“We had shared this advert, but a number of people have reached us with a request that we share the same on Facebook for public participation. Yes, we made an announcement through our networks, and we received a number of recommendations already. We’ve interviewed six already.

“Are you interested or know someone who is interested in taking up the position of Deputy Governor for Taita Taveta County in the coming general elections? We are looking for a suitable candidate for this position,” she wrote on Facebook.


Interested applicants must be male citizens aged at least 50 years old, living in Kenya and with a Master’s degree from a recognized university.

Additionally, they must be voters registered in Taita Taveta County and come from either Voi, Mwatate or Taveta Sub counties.

They must also meet the statutory moral and ethical requirements of leadership and integrity under Chapter six of the constitution of Kenya. Other qualifications include:

1.Must not be a state officer or acting in any state office.

2. Must have a sound mind.

3. Must not have been discharged as bankrupt.

4. Must not be subject to a prison sentence within at least six months from the date or registration of candidates or the date of the general election.

5. Must demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting citizens of Taita Taveta County and show a willingness to participate in addressing them.

Those who fit the requirements above are advised to reach out to her by Friday, May 13, 2022.

Nyange had spent three years at the MCK, having been appointed in 2019.

She resigned from the regulator on Wednesday, February 9, in line with the MCK regulations that require journalists seeking elective positions to step down by that time.

“This follows Gazette Notices Number 430/1/2/3/4/5 of 20th January 2022, and the Court of Appeal decision rendered 8th February 2022, in Civil Appeal No. 119 of 2017 Public Service Commission and Others Vs Eric Cheruiyot and Others (Nakuru) pertaining to the resignation of state and public officers who intend to seek offices in the 2022 General Election,” read her statement on social media in part.

She however affirmed that she would continue to pursue her roles in media and communications as a consultant.

Nyange will be up against Jubilee Party candidate and incumbent Taita Taveta governor Granton Samboja and his predecessor, John Mruttu. Samboja was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mediamax Group, the parent company of K24 TV, Milele FM, People Daily, and a host of other radio stations.
