Why Kenyans Are Fighting Ex-Capital FM Host Miss Mandi

Former Capital FM presenter Mandi Sarro, alias Miss Mandi, drew the wrath of Kenyans On Twitter (KOT) on Wednesday, January 19 after a former colleague exposed her for bullying him while they worked together at the station.

Mandi had posted a tweet earlier that day demanding Kenyans to take responsibility for their actions, noting that she does not like people who commit acts meant to hurt others.

“I truly dislike people who aren’t big on accountability. You can’t go around doing things that hurt people then are afraid to be accountable for your actions. You’re stunting your own growth,” she wrote.

Koome Gitobu, who revealed that he worked alongside Mandi at the radio station, countered her tweet with his revelation that not only did she bully him but subjected him to torment, which dented his experience at the media house.

He added that she would summon the whole office to ridicule his fashion when he was unable to afford a lifestyle whereby the rich buy trendy fashion wear to stand out from the crowd.

She also backbit him and clowned him for preparing his lunch at home and carrying it to work instead of ordering it from the fancy restaurants in the city.

“This woman would constantly call the entire office to a stop to make fun of my clothes when I didn’t have enough money to buy the trendy s**t she and her friends thought only those deserving to be in their presence had to wear.

“This woman. Made up such hurtful nicknames for me behind my back. And laughed in my face because I couldn’t afford to order fancy food for lunch so I would cook my own food and carry,” he wrote in part.

Gitobu also called her out for damaging his chances of being a radio presenter as successful as her because he did not have the same accent she had, which was attributed to her success.

“This woman. Felt because I didn’t have an accent as well-polished as hers I, therefore, was not deserving to be a radio presenter like her. And would happily remind me whenever I crossed her (which only happened when I breathed near her),” he added.

He clarified that the two worked in the same industry since that day and crossed paths several times. Additionally, he hinted that the former radio host had on several occasions tried to sabotage his work as well as his job.

“You can say whatever you want about that woman. You can even come and make more jokes about me. But you will never convince me that there is a person in this our media/entertainment industry with a heart Blacker than Miss Mandii.

“And I haven’t even said anything about how she constantly actively sabotaged my work and my job,” he concluded.

Marini Naturals CEO Michelle Ntalami weighed in on the matter through her official Twitter account while offering sympathy for Gitobu. She recounted how she was subjected to hateful comments from Mandi while at a party at Onyx Club along Ngong Road, Nairobi.

“I’ve gone through my fair share of bile and hate from this person, and for absolutely no reason. Literally, on the first day we ever met before I became a “somebody,” they treated me so bad.

“We were at Onyx Club for a mutual friend’s birthday, I will never forget it. I’ve kept my distance ever since, but I always knew the day would come. P.S: Her friends are really sweet and amazing! I hope they can help her be a kinder person. Keep shining, and keep your head up!” read her reply.

By the time of publishing this story, Mandi is yet to issue an official statement. Viral Tea reached out to sources at the station regarding the matter but disclosed that they had not worked there during her tenure.

Following the expose, KOT spent the whole night resurfacing past instances where Mandi was accused of hurting people, especially while at the station. Viral Tea obtained a past cutout of a past story run by a local newspaper which revealed that Mandi was accused of physically assaulting her former colleague Anita Nderu during Capital FM’s team bonding at the Fairmont Hotel in Nairobi.

The incident that reportedly happened in 2014 led Capital FM’s employees to stage a protest after Mandi went unpunished over the scenario. Efforts to involve relevant authorities in the matter were also thwarted as the then management under the late Chris Kirubi directed that the matter be solved amicably.

The duo was issued warning letters after the altercation, whose cause to date is unknown.

Mandi quit the station in November 2020 to focus on being a digital creative. She was hosting Hits Not Homework with Neville alongside DJ Roudge, DJ Joe Mfalme and Joe Kisila, with the show replaced with The Hype 984.
