The Saba Saba Day protests in Ngong, Kajiado County, became a frightening affair on Monday, July 7, as police officers reportedly fired live bullets, which landed on the homes of residents.

Multiple clips seen by Viral Tea showed police officers, including those in plain clothes and reportedly from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), patrolling the area flanked by Subaru vehicles and shooting live bullets from their loaded weapons.

With fear striking the satellite town, another clip captured a police officer in plain clothes walking casually with what looked like an assault rifle before rapidly changing direction and heading towards the view of the camera as gunshots rent the air.

Per credible reports reaching Viral Tea, so far, at least four people were fatally shot in the Ngong area, and another two were killed in the Kangemi area.

A paramedic in Kangemi told KTN News that both victims had already been pronounced dead by the time they reached the medical centre, adding that ambulances couldn’t reach parts of Kangemi because of barricades, as protests in the area turned violent.

One of those who was shot in Kangemi was reportedly not a protester but a resident on his way home from work who was struck by a stray bullet.

Elsewhere in Juja, another harrowing incident unfolded when police were captured dragging the body of a protester into the police station, minutes after shooting him.

Activist Hanifa Adan reported that three individuals who had brought the body to Juja Police Station were beaten up and arrested.

Meanwhile, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has just released data showing that 10 people were killed during the Saba Saba protests, with 29 injuries, two cases of abduction and 37 arrests documented across 17 counties.

Other than Ngong, reports indicate that three people died in Kajiado, one in Kitengela, one in Nyandarua, one in Mbeere and a 14-year-old succumbed to bullet wounds in Nairobi.

"The KNCHR has noted that the police have continued to flagrantly disregard a High Court order mandating that all officers managing demonstrations be in official uniform and remain identifiable at all times. The Commission observed numerous hooded officers, not in uniform, travelling in unmarked vehicles while patrolling Nairobi, Kajiado and Nakuru counties.

"Additionally, the presence of criminal gangs wielding crude weapons, including whips, wooden clubs, machetes, spears, bows and arrows, was noted in Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado and Eldoret. In Nairobi and Eldoret, these hooded gangs were seen operating alongside police officers," the commission said in a statement to newsrooms.
