New details have surfaced before the death of Kikuyu gospel artist Betty Bayo, a development that has sent the gospel community in Kenya into mourning.

Viral Tea has seen a post from her official Facebook page published on Sunday, November 9, at 8.30 am, with the caption reading "I can do all things through Jesus Christ, who strengthens me."

This was accompanied by a photo of her in a beautiful, long, red dress, posing at what looked like a church compound.

Meanwhile, a family spokesperson on Monday, November 10, shared new details about the late Bayo’s illness and her final moments before her untimely death.

In a statement issued shortly after her passing, the family disclosed that the 11th Hour hitmaker had been undergoing treatment for blood cancer at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

Describing her death as a devastating loss to both the family and the gospel community, the spokesperson said Bayo had been admitted to the hospital for much of November before her condition worsened.

“We want to tell the public that today at 1:03 p.m., we lost Betty Bayo. It is no longer a rumour; it is the truth,” the spokesperson confirmed during a press briefing.

According to the family, the singer had been battling acute mild leukaemia, a condition that led to severe bleeding. Although they had known of her diagnosis for some time, her health deteriorated sharply in recent weeks, forcing doctors to place her under intensive care.

“Betty has been unwell since last week; she was diagnosed with acute mild cancer—leukaemia. Betty was transferred to KNH on Friday, as she was suffering from excessive bleeding. The doctors tried their best, but the will of God has prevailed,” the family said.

Also present at KNH during the announcement was Pastor Victor Kanyari, Betty Bayo’s ex-husband, who later took to social media to mourn the mother of his two children.

By the evening, the family had begun arrangements to transfer her body from Kenyatta National Hospital to the Kenyatta University Referral Mortuary, as they awaited confirmation of the burial date.

Beyond her chart-topping gospel songs, Betty Bayo had become widely admired for her honesty about her personal struggles and her resilience.

In recent years, she gained recognition as a motivational voice and content creator, often sharing messages of faith, healing, and hope.
