KeNHA Announces Temporary Closure Of Major Highway This Weekend
KeNHA also encouraged people living along the bypass to cooperate with traffic officers and marshals who will be deployed throughout the affected stretch
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued an advisory announcing a temporary closure of part of the Eldoret Bypass on Saturday, November 22.
In a notice released on Wednesday, November 19, the agency said the specified section will be out of use for several hours, and drivers will need to take alternative routes as directed.
"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to inform the public of the temporary closure of the Eldoret Bypass (A8-North Road) from Cheplaskei Interchange to Maili Tisa (Leseru) Interchange on Saturday, November 22, 2025, between 6.00 AM and 3.00 PM," the notice stated.

KeNHA added that the interruption is meant to facilitate the 2025 Ceder Sports Academy cycling event and urged motorists to use the outlined detour through Eldoret town.
Drivers have been urged to use the Cheplaskei–Maili Tisa (A8) route passing through Eldoret’s CBD, commonly known as Uganda Road.
KeNHA also encouraged people living along the bypass to cooperate with traffic officers and marshals who will be deployed throughout the affected stretch, adding that it regrets any disruptions caused.
Meanwhile, this closure will coincide with the temporary disruption of another major road in Kenya, the A3 Thika–Kilimambogo Road near Delmonte Farms in Gatuanyaga.
Motorists were advised to expect traffic snarl-ups along the road from Friday, November 14, to Monday, December 1, to facilitate carriageway rehabilitation. According to the authority, both directions — towards Kilimambogo and Thika — will be affected, with drivers urged to stick to the outlined diversion routes.
"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) would like to inform the public that there will be traffic disruption along Thika - Kilimambogo (A3) Road at Gatuanyaga (Delmonte farms) section.
"This is to allow for carriageway rehabilitation works scheduled from Friday, November 14, 2025, to Monday, December 1, 2025, on a daily basis," announced KeNHA.
"Both Kilimambogo-bound traffic and Thika-bound traffic will be diverted as indicated on the Traffic diversion plan."
The road is a major connector because it links directly to the Thika Superhighway. It starts in Thika Town as part of the A2 corridor that runs through Nairobi, Thika, Kenol, and Sagana.
This stretch forms part of the A3 Highway, which extends east past Kilimambogo toward Matuu, Mwingi, Garissa, and eventually Liboi on the Somalia border.
Drivers using the A3 Thika–Kilimambogo route to access Nairobi via the Thika Superhighway were expected to feel the biggest impact.
