2 Police Officers Killed In Suspected Al-Shabaab Attack
Initial reports suggest the blast was triggered when the vehicle drove over the device.
Two Administration Police officers lost their lives after their patrol vehicle was hit by an Improvised Explosive Device in Kulan, near Daadab.
Initial reports suggest the blast was triggered when the vehicle drove over the device. At least five other officers in the same vehicle sustained severe injuries.
Though not yet verified, local officials believe the device may have been intentionally planted along the patrol route by al-Shabaab fighters. As of the time of publication, no militant group had claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Land Cruiser patrol truck was on a routine sweep along the Kenya–Somalia frontier when the explosion ripped through it. Officials say militants had planted the device by the roadside and detonated it remotely as the officers approached.

The blast shredded the vehicle, leaving it twisted and scattered across the dusty border stretch — a region with a long history of militant activity.
The incident comes after months of relative calm attributed to heightened security operations in Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera. Authorities have expanded patrols and deployed specialized anti-terror teams to curb al-Shabaab movements along the porous border.
October incident
In October, police in Garissa thwarted a planned bombing at Welmerer–Yumbia after the Special Operations Group (SOG) confronted militants laying IEDs on the road.
Guided by a tip-off from residents, officers engaged the suspects, seized assembled explosives, and destroyed them before they could be used. The militants fled.
Security officials say growing cooperation with locals has been key to disrupting such plots, with communities reporting suspicious movements of militants believed to be crossing into Kenya to stage attacks.
Later that month, Constable Elijah Orwa was shot dead in Dagahaley, Wajir County, in an ambush also linked to al-Shabaab.
He and fellow officers were responding to gunfire when attackers lying in wait opened fire, killing him on the spot.
Garissa and surrounding counties continue to face the persistent threat of the terror group, whose fighters usually slip back across the border after carrying out assaults.
