Legendary Kenyan female boxer, Conjestina Achieng received job offers from former Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, eight months after her admission to rehab in Mombasa with his help.

Sonko took to Twitter on Wednesday, March 29 to share the good news of Achieng's planned employment, which includes a stable job that comes with a good salary.

The former county boss has played a paramount role in the legend's life after he admitted her to various facilities including Nairobi County rehabilitation centres, Parklands, Diani Beach and Mombasa Women Empowerment Network Hospital in Miritini, Mombasa for rehabilitation.

"This time round we are not releasing her to go back to Siaya. Immediately, she is discharged after fully recovering, I have already prepared a good plan for her where she will also be earning a salary," Sonko stated in part.

According to him, Conjestina will be the overall assistant head of security and head of all female bouncers at Club Volume Mombasa at night and during peak hours as well as the holidays.

"She will also serve as the head trainer in all the gyms in our establishments (Salama Bling Beach Resort, Kimeremeta Safari Lodge etc...).

"As a long-term measure, we are intending to open for her a boxing training centre where she will be coaching boxing," he added.

The news of Achieng's discharge was also shared by renowned sports journalist Carol Radull, who thanked Sonko for helping out Conjestina up to this far.

"Eight months in the Centre in Mombasa, my girl Conjestina Achieng looks so good! Work in a gym awaits her upon completion where she will be training young boxers. Thank you, Mike Sonko. We never give up," Radull shared on Twitter.

Fondly known as Conje, the 45-year-old was a popular icon among many boxing fans across the country during her prime periods of a successful career where she bagged multiple international titles.

In July 2022, the former IBF middleweight champion's health deteriorated following her diagnosis of Schizoaffective disorder in 2011. She was then driven by Sonko from her home in Siaya to the hospital on the basis of a request from the family of the legendary pugilist.

“I was approached by Conjestina’s son, Charlton Otieno, who reached out to me requesting for his help as he decried financial constraints in the family. We do not want this to continue in the future and that is why we have agreed with the family we shall offer her employment after discharge,” said the politician who has been active in humanitarian work.

“We cannot allow our legend to go back in the same environment after recovery, we shall work with different people to ensure she is engaged after recovering treatment and rebuilds her life."

During her time inside the ring, Conjestina became the first African woman to hold an international title when she beat Ugandan Fiona Tugume to take the vacant WIBF Middleweight title to become the first Kenyan to clinch an international title

Born in 1977 in Umiru village, Yala division, Siaya district, Conjestina was nicknamed ‘Hands of Stone’, and was once ranked in the top 10 of the world middleweight rankings.

Conjestina was also popular in sports media too, with her promoters trying to slot in interviews and endorsements in her busy schedule for companies that battled each other to have her as a brand as she continued to shatter records in a sport well-known amongst men.
