Tanzanian award-winning singer Diamond Platnumz will fly into Nairobi today (Saturday, August 6) for a performance at Raila Odinga's Azimio la Umoja rally at the Kasarani Stadium.

The Jeje hitmaker had initially announced on his social media platforms that he was boarding his newly acquired jet. He was in South Africa for his daughter Latifah Dangote alias Princess Tiffah's 7th birthday.

"Nairobi in a second...," he captioned an Instagram reel of him boarding the aircraft with his daughter.

He however did not disclose more details regarding his anticipated performance.

Viral Tea has learnt that Diamond will stage a live performance at the rally before returning to South Africa for the party later tonight.

He last performed in Nairobi in December 2018 during the Wasafi Festival to mark the New Year celebrations.

His new jet, he explained, was to ease travel around the world for concerts, and comes after he had declared his intention to acquire one.

"Sometimes for someone like me who came from the streets, when you buy a car worth like Ksh119.7 million (US$1,000,000). What for?

"You have to do that, if not they will never value you, someone else will look like he is the real deal and you are not. In fact, I have just bought a private jet,” Diamond disclosed in an interview with DW Africa.

As for Raila's rally, it is the last mega rally of the campaign season, which comes to an end today as depicted in the timelines and regulations by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

At the same time, his competitor, Deputy President William Ruto, is hosting a mega rally for the Kenya Kwanza coalition at the Nyayo National Stadium. Both rallies have ground Nairobi County to a halt as supporters troop to the respective stadiums.

Politicians have been endorsed by musicians across the country and in other African countries as they prepare to battle each other on the ballot on Tuesday, August 9.

Raila was recently endorsed by popular Congolese Lingala singer, Mbilia Bel, during a rally in Nyeri County on Tuesday, July 4.

The musician, known for hit songs such as Nakei Nairobi and Nadina, among others, was introduced to the crowd by Raila who revealed to his supporters that he had brought a guest artist to perform for them.

Bel performed the famous Nakei Nairobi song, but in an interesting fashion, she twisted it to make it look like the lyrics were endorsing the presidential bid for Raila, as well as Martha Karua for Deputy President.
