Former Citizen TV anchor Hussien Mohamed has broken his silence after being appointed the new State House spokesperson by President William Ruto on Friday, October 14.

In a tweet on Saturday, October 15, Hussein thanked the Head of State for granting him the opportunity to lead the Presidential Communications Service (PCS), having worked as the William Samoei Ruto (WSR) communications director in the run-up to the general elections on August 9, 2022.

He pledged to work relentlessly with Ruto in supporting him to deliver on the campaign promises the Head of State had assured Kenyans during his campaign trails.

"Mr President William Ruto, I’m grateful and humbled by the honour you have bestowed upon me to serve as State House Spokesperson. I pledge to tirelessly work in supporting you deliver the plan to achieve greatness for our republic.

"Thanks, patriots for your congratulatory messages," he wrote.

Hussein takes over from former Citizen TV anchor Kanze Dena-Mararo who served in former President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration.

He will now lead in making statements on Ruto's behalf and issuing any updates on various government projects as tasked by the Head of State.

He will also be in charge of coordinating digital messaging, research, branding and press at the State House.

Hussein joined Citizen TV in 2008 as a news anchor and show host and spent more than a decade crafting himself into one of the best journalists in the country.

He hosted the Newsnight show and interviewed top businessmen and politicians in Kenya, including Ruto, with his fearless pinning down of his interviewees winning plaudits amongst Kenyans.

In 2018, he won the male media personality of the year at the Somali Glamor Awards. In 2019, he received the Moran of the burning spear awarded to him by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In the appointments, David Mugonyi, who previously served as Ruto's communications director at the Office of the Deputy President, was promoted to Head of the PCS.
