National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah on Sunday, November 26 exposed Former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa who declared that he would not sign the final report compiled by the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) which outlined recommendations aimed at ending the political standoff that has rocked Kenya for three-quarters of 2023.

In a statement, Ichung'wah claimed that Wamalwa was lying to Kenyans while explaining why he would not sign the report while addressing congregants in Tingolo Catholic Church in Busia County.

The Kikuyu Member of Parliament (MP) claimed that Wamalwa left the country during a meeting with NADCO on Friday before releasing the report the following day, after four months of deliberations on a series of weighty issues including the cost of living.

Ichung'wah indicated that the Democratic Action Party Kenya (DAP-K) leader had entrusted his colleagues to finalise the process, claiming Wamalwa's camp plotted to scuttle the talks and lead to a standoff between the Azimio and Kenya Kwanza coalitions.

“This one left on Friday ahead of the conclusion of the talks claiming he was travelling to Kinshasa and left his blessings to the rest of their team saying he would sign when back,” Ichung’wah claimed.

"As indicated in our statement, all along there were forces linked to past state capture that were hellbent on scuttling the talks. They are at pains now that the process never collapsed as they had prayed for and their state capture master is very mad."

This came after Wamalwa, who is a member of the NADCO committee, vowed not to sign the report as he claimed it did not comprehensively address the issue of the high cost of living.

“I didn’t and will not append my signature to the NADCO report and have not and will not accept any sitting allowance for the same because I believe we did not do justice to the single most important issue to Kenyans; the cost of living,” he revealed.

His remarks came after NARC-Kenya party leader Martha Karua questioned the 296-page report released on Saturday, November 25 by the committee co-chaired by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and Ichung'wah.

She outrightly expressed that she would reject the report if it did not address priority issues such as the cost of living, electoral justice, and respect for multiparty democracy.

"Any purported agreement that does not immediately impact on the cost of living, electoral justice and respect for multiparty democracy is a fraud on the people and must be rejected," she stated.
