Former Citizen TV presenter, Kimani Mbugua on Saturday, September 23 urged Kenyans to help him get his life back on track while he opened up on his challenging battle with bipolar mood disorder.

In a video posted on his Instagram account, Mbugua opened up on his struggles with his mental health, the loss of his career, and his current dire circumstances.

The 27-year-old was known for his youthful approach to the news before his media career came to an end in 2020.

Mbugua's journey through mental illness began that year when he was diagnosed with bipolar mood disorder, a condition that significantly impacted his life and career.

"I fell ill in 2020. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and since then my life has fallen apart.

"I have lost so many things, I have lost so many friends on the journey. People got tired of me and I'm in a position where most people are not willing to help," he narrated in part.

He added that after leaving the hospital last week, he sensed that his mind returned to normal, but declared that he was not going to return to his previous position in life.

"So… I’m homeless. I have my bag and I am out, the people who I was living with said they couldn’t host me for any longer and asked me to look for an alternative," he went on.

Mbugua announced that he was looking for a business partner to finance his ideas, which included working with creatives in the content creation industry in Kenya.

"All I need is a business partner who is serious, who will bring in money and have my ideas take off.

"I discovered that I could suffer in silence and be depressed and go back to drugs. I don't want to go back to drugs," he added.

He revealed that over the years, he has sunk into debt, which currently stands at Ksh1.7 million. Mbugua also claimed that a person very close to him had sold his car.

"I'm in so much debt... like Ksh1.7 million. Somebody very close to me sold my car.

"I haven't had a job in the last two years. I've just been wandering and being hosted by different people. But now I'm healing," he went on.

Kimani then stated that he does not own a phone, and had borrowed one from an onlooker just to upload the clip on social media.

“If you are willing to hear about what I have, it’s a creative agency that I want to form and work with creatives. I haven’t had a job in the last two years. I’ve just been wandering and being hosted by different people. Of course, they get tired and that’s allowed,” he said,

Adding, “If you are interested in the business idea, or if you want to host me. I need a laptop and Wi-Fi and if you can do that please help me.”

Mbugua can be reached through email at [email protected].

He got into the media industry as a 19-year-old when he joined Nation Media Group (NMG) as a university student in training.

He worked with the radio department at Nation for three years before joining Royal Media Services where he worked for Citizen TV, Inooro FM and Hot 96.
