The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has cautioned the public against fraudsters posing as military officials and demanding cash from unsuspecting Kenyans in exchange for recruitment slots.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 3, the KDF said it had received several reports of individuals using hotlines and social media to solicit bribes ahead of the upcoming recruitment exercise.

The military warned that the scammers pretend to be KDF officers and claim they can manipulate the recruitment process for a fee.

"The Ministry of Defence and KDF have received multiple reports through hotlines and social media platforms regarding attempts by fraudulent individuals and groups to solicit monies promising to influence the recruitment process," KDF revealed.

"We urge the public to remain vigilant and not fall victim to these impostors who are falsely claiming to be KDF officials or recruitment agents."

KDF has urged Kenyans to stay alert and avoid falling for recruitment scams, advising anyone who encounters bribery or suspicious activities to report immediately to the nearest police station or military camp.

The military emphasized that the ongoing recruitment process is purely merit-based, determined by qualifications and performance during official selection.

KDF also clarified that applications for General Service Officers (GSO), Specialist Officers, and Tradesmen and women must be submitted exclusively through its official online portal.

The warning follows the launch of a nationwide recruitment drive three weeks ago, with applications open until October 12, 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be announced in local dailies between October 21 and 24.

Applicants are required to be Kenyan citizens with a valid national identity (ID) card, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) PIN, and academic certificates.

Age limits have been set at 18 to 28 years for cadets and general duty officers, while constable applicants must be between 30 and 55 years old.
