Senate Speaker Amason Kingi cracked the whip on Nandi Senator, Samson Cherargei and proceeded to kick him out of the chambers on Tuesday, August 29.

Speaker Kingi had ordered Cherargei to leave the House after he accused him of disorderly conduct.

The Senator, an ardent supporter of President William Ruto and Kenya Kwanza, was suspended from attending the remainder of the Tuesday sessions, where senators were discussing the formation and composition of the National Dialogue team headed by Kimani Ichung'wah, National Assembly Leader of the Majority and Kalonzo Musyoka, Wiper's part leader and Azimio co-principal.

Tempers flared after Steward Madzayo, Kilifi Senator, called Cherargei a kid during a heated debate, a matter which angered Cherargei to the point of defying orders by Kingi to return to his seat.

Here is the video:

Cherargei however demanded a retraction arguing that he was enraged by what he termed as an intentional spewing of vitriol and remained standing, oblivious of Kingi's orders.

Kingi had assured the Senator that he would address his concerns, but he was ignored, forcing Kingi to direct him out of the chambers with the aid of the Sergeant at Arms.

"Senator Cheragei, take your seat, or I will rule you out of order and kick you out. I will address your concerns," the Speaker warned.

"Sergeant at Arms use the necessary force to get the Senator out of the chambers," Speaker Kingi ordered after Cheragei failed to take his seat.

Three Sergeants at arm were then deployed to escort Cherargei out of the chambers following the Speaker's orders.

Thereafter, Kingi demanded Senator Madzayo to withdraw his statements and apologise to the Senators for using unparliamentary language.

"Mr. Speaker I am sorry for the terms I used on Senator Cheragei. I used the terms unintentionally and withdrew them," Madzayo apologised.

After the fracas, the Senators resumed debate during the special sitting where they approved the formation of the dialogue committee.

Kingi gave the green light for the formation of the 10-member committee consisting of officials drawn from both the opposition and the government.

These include National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi (ODM), DAP Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa, Nyamira Senator Okon'go Omogeni (ODM) and Malindi MP Amina Mnyazi (ODM) representing Azimio.

Kenya Kwanza, the ruling coalition, settled on Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot (UDA), Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire (UDA), EALA MP Hassan Omar (UDA) and Bungoma Woman Representative Catherine Wambilianga (FORD-K).

The purpose of approving the committee by Parliament was to protect it from being challenged in court.
