Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has announced that the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination results will be released tomorrow, Thursday, November 23.

A media invite sent to Viral Tea revealed that Machogu will officiate the release of the results for the last-ever KCPE examination in the 8-4-4 system.

"Education Cabinet Secretary Hon. Ezekiel Machogu will tomorrow, Thursday, November 23, 2023, release the 2023 KCPE Examination results at the Kenya National Examinations Council’s New Mitihani House in South C at 8.00 am," read the invite in part.

This comes a day after Machogu had projected that the results would be released anytime next week.

It is worth noting that President William Ruto is in the country and will receive as well as assess the report on the status of exams from Machogu before the announcement is made.

“We have done the marking, it is finished and we will release the exams anytime next week,” he said after presiding over the 3rd Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Kenya international conference on girls’ education in Africa on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.

The CS also revealed that the government is eyeing the placement of 1.4 million students who sat the KCPE in respective secondary schools before Christmas to allow parents time to prepare for Form One admissions.

“Most likely we will be able to conduct the Form One admissions before Christmas and the parents can be able to prepare for their children to join Form One at least on the third week of January,” he stated.

Machogu however noted that there were only 6 cases of exam cheating in the KCPE examinations which were fortunately not serious as he defended the credibility of the national examinations for both KCPE and KCSE.

This is despite widespread cheating reports in various parts of the country that have seen the arrest of various exam administrators.

“I want to assure you that KCPE went on very well and there were no cases of cheating or malpractices. We only had six cases which does not amount to cheating, it was an attempt out of 1.4 million, there were only six cases,” he added.

There were 1,415,315 KCPE candidates across 28,533 centres, while 1,282,574 registered for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exam across 32,584 centres. The two papers were written between October 30 and November 1, 2023.

The final KCPE class marks the end of the four-decade 8-4-4 syllabus at the primary school level. The education system has since been replaced by the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), and the Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) modules.

Inside the competency-based curriculum, pupils will spend two years in preprimary, six years in primary, and six years in junior and senior high school.
