Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday, November 11 hit back at South African Opposition Member of Parliament Julius Malema who roasted President William Ruto for making fake promises.

Speaking during a church service at St Thomas Girls Secondary School in Kilifi, the DP claimed that Malema, the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), had amassed more knowledge about Kenya than his own country, South Africa, which was facing more problems.

“I have seen a man from South Africa. He doesn't even know about Kenya and is talking about it," Gachagua trolled back Malema.

"I want to advise foreigners that when they visit countries, let them respect leaders from the countries they are visiting. Likewise, we have also travelled abroad but have never been insulted.”

According to Gachagua, Malema failed to provide amicable solutions to the problems affecting South Africans despite his reputation as an opposition leader.

He specifically cited South Africa’s perennial power outages as one key challenge facing the South African nation, which he witnessed during his recent visits to the country. In December 2022, the DP alleged that he was caught in a seven-hour blackout in South Africa due to power rationing.

Gachagua further accused Malema of knowing too much about political matters in other countries.

"If you are saying that Kenya is bad, then why come here? This guy arrived in Kenya in the morning, and by noon, he had known all the affairs of the country?" Gachagua wondered.

"We want to call on leaders from other countries to instead go to the coast and sunbathe and then fly back. Leave Kenyan issues to us,” the DP further urged.

On Thursday, Malema landed in Nairobi for the launch of the Pan African Institute at Lukenya University in Makueni County.

The Institute is a lobby group being championed by young politicians from across the continent to push for the integration of the continent.

During the launch of the Institute on Thursday, November 9, Malema called out Ruto for pronouncing promises and going into hiding when those promises were not met.

"I don't know if President William Ruto means it because he said so many things and I can't locate him these days because the things he said during elections and the things he's doing now are two different things.

"I heard him say we need to do away with the dollar and build our own currency but these actions are not speaking to anything of doing away with the dollar," he slammed the President.
