NTV prime-time news anchor, Mark Masai, assured his fans and social media followers that he would be back on air, hours after he was fired from the station.

He stated on Thursday, December 1 that he was taking a commercial break for a short time. He however did not disclose his next move.

In addition, he shared a video montage of his special moments while anchoring at the station since 2008, while praising the station for putting together a great team to achieve success.

"NTV is a great team! These are different times. Was a great show. Time for short a commercial break. I'll be back!" he wrote.

He added that the exit from NTV did not mean he was pulling the plug on his media career and that he would return to other platforms.

“This is the reality of the media landscape around the world and unfortunately I was at the losing end of this one.

"However, this is not the end of my career in the media, I will be back on other platforms. All I have to say is watch this space,” Masai told Capital FM.

The following day, he captured himself signing what appeared to be termination papers while at a coffee shop and restaurant in Nairobi.

Masai's statement comes after Viral Tea was reliably informed that he was among the senior journalists affected by the mass firings at the Nation Media Group (NMG).

Insiders indicated that he was given the termination letter on his way to reading the previous night's bulletin and was professional until his exit.

"He left the WhatsApp group for NTV. It is bad. He was given the letter on his way to reading last night's bulletin.

"Professional to the core, he read it and didn't show any hint he is leaving," the insider told Viral Tea.

Reports indicated that more exits would follow in the coming days. This comes on the back of media houses such as Standard Media Group (SMG) and BBC planning to fire their staff en masse.
