During the operation, 26 bags of marijuana were recovered alongside 173 pieces of blended bhang and 42 cartons containing 200 cigarettes each.

"Police in Parklands, Nairobi today August 15, 2023, recovered twelve million nine hundred and seventy-five thousand Kenyan Shillings (Ksh12,975,000) and suspected marijuana substances following a multi-agency operation at Kariwa Slums in Ngara.

"During the crackdown, four suspects namely, Eugene Jumba, Hillary Jumbo, Sheila Withers and Teresa Wanjiru were arrested with 26 bags of Cannabis Sativa (Marijuana), four cartons of rolling materials, 173 pieces of suspected blended drug/bhang, 42 cartons each containing 200 pieces of cigarettes," stated NPS in part.

The case is under investigation by the DCI's Anti-Narcotics Unit which took over the matter following the apprehension of the suspects.

Police officers had been responding to cases of illegal drug trafficking in the area among other heinous activities which have prompted them to launch investigations and zero in on the suspects.

The detectives are said to have raided the scene of the crime following a tip-off from locals.

On Friday, August 4, police in Moyale between the border of Kenya and Ethiopia inflicted a gunshot wound on a suspect who was arrested in an operation that saw 500 kilograms of bhang worth Ksh10 million seized.

DCI had reported that the suspect was arrested in a stealth operation meant to stop the trafficking of narcotics in the region.

The police had acted on a tip-off regarding a trailer which was loaded with suspicious goods that was spotted at a thicket.

"The operation was launched after police received intelligence information that a lorry had been spotted at a thicket at Kate in Moyale while loaded with a suspicious consignment.

"Swinging into action, the law enforcers rushed to the location where a trailer loaded with 99 bales of the illicit drug estimated at a street value of Ksh10 million was intercepted and the cargo seized," the report read in part.

The operation also saw the officers arrest the trailer of the driver, however, it was disrupted by a confrontation between them and two suspected accomplices riding on a motorcycle who began shooting indiscriminately at the officers.

The wounded suspect was rushed to hospital for medical attention before being arraigned for drug trafficking-related charges.

The National Police Service (NPS) has been responding to drug trafficking cases reported countrywide following intelligence shared by locals and encourages Kenyans to do the same anytime they detect suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods connected to illegal drug activities.
