Two people were injured on Friday, September 1 after a light fixed-wing aircraft crash-landed at Guara Primary School in Kieni, Nyeri County, disrupting the learning of students in the school.

The aircraft that was involved in the incident was said to have been from Mount Kenya Flight School, with the pilot, a student, said to be completing a routine patrol under the guidance of an instructor.

Photos seen by Viral Tea showed that the plane had punched a hole into the wall of one of the classrooms, triggering a panic that drew the attention of one of the first responders.

Speaking to the press, the first responder revealed that they rushed to the school to confirm the safety of the students as well as the passengers onboard.

"We saw someone rushing to the gate, asking for assistance to help us save the passengers. Fortunately, we were able to calm the students who were screaming and running for their lives," he stated, adding that police officers and a rescue team were dispatched to the area.

The pilot and the instructor, who were gravely injured, were rushed to Nanyuki Cottage Hospital. Fortunately, no student was injured during the incident.

Light aircraft have made headlines as a majority of aeroplane crashes recently reported in the country have involved aircraft belonging to that category, raising questions regarding their safety.

On Thursday, June 8, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) confirmed that a light aircraft crash-landed at Kisumu International Airport with two occupants, reportedly a trainee pilot and his instructor, who survived but were rushed to hospital for precautionary medical attention.

"We would like to confirm that a light aircraft has had an emergency landing at Kisumu International Airport after suffering landing gear failure. Both occupants are safe and have been rushed to hospital for precautionary medical assessment," read the statement by KAA in part.

It was later revealed that the trainee pilot made a vital manoeuvre that arguably saved him and his instructor from becoming casualties when the aircraft made the emergency landing.

Witnesses reported that the aircraft landed at the airport with a thud despite the two occupants escaping safely from the scene. The plane went around in circles around the airport for hours as locals questioned what could be wrong with it.

When the wheels got stuck airborne, the pilot made rounds, flying low so that the plane could completely exhaust its fuel and not explode on impact when it hit the ground.
