A grisly accident that occurred on Monday, May 20 along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway resulted in the deaths of six people and several others seriously injured. 

The collision occurred around 3:00 PM in the Rapture area, about 15 kilometres east of the Timboroa police station.

The accident involved a Mercedes-Benz Actros trailer and a Toyota Hiace matatu from the 3NT Sacco fleet.

According to a police report, the trailer, driven by an unidentified individual, was heading towards Nakuru when the driver lost control.

The vehicle swerved into the opposite lane and collided head-on with an oncoming matatu carrying 16 passengers to Eldoret. Six passengers in the matatu died on the spot.

The injured were rushed to Burnt Forest Sub-County Hospital for immediate treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were transported to Eldama Ravine Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where they await postmortem examination.

Photos seen by Viral Tea revealed the devastating nature of the crash, with the matatu severely damaged beyond the point of repair.

The accident has drawn attention to the safety of the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway, with many calling for stricter traffic regulations and better road maintenance to prevent such tragedies in the future.

This crash comes just two days after nine people died and 17 others sustained injuries after a matatu belonging to Naboka Sacco bus from Gataka to Nairobi plunged into Mbagathi River on Ushirika Road.

Six people died on the spot while three succumbed to their injuries while being rushed to hospital. The injured were taken to Karen, Ngong and St Mary’s hospital.

Police stated that the driver lost control of the bus after its brakes failed.

The accident occurred on Saturday morning, May 18 along the road connecting Karen and Ongata Rongai, near the Cooperative University of Kenya.
