Kenyans were on Wednesday, December 20 left perplexed after an alleged police report countered assertions by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) that the alleged disappearance of the teenage daughter of Environment Cabinet Secretary (CS) Soipan Tuya was fake.

It all started when controversial blogger Cyprian Nyakundi claimed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the sleuths launched investigations into the disappearance of the teenage girl.

He added that police revealed that the 17-year-old reportedly fled their Karen home on Monday afternoon, December 18 by scaling a perimeter wall.

"DCI are investigating the disappearance of a 17-year-old (form 4) daughter of Environment CS Soipan Tuya.

"Police says the girl escaped from their Karen home along Bogani road on Monday afternoon by scaling the perimeter wall. Picked by a Vitz," stated Nyakundi in the post.

The post however attracted the attention of Homa Bay Governor, Gladys Wanga, who urged him to "Please pull this down. It is untrue and really unfair to the family. Public officials are also entitled to their private space especially when it pertains to children." However, Nyakundi argued that he did not share the minor's picture or name.

DCI then published a screenshot of Nyakundi's post on its X account and branded it fake. However, four minutes later, the blogger countered by sharing the police report purported to be from Hardy Police Station.

The report labelled as OB 18/18/12/2023 read "On 18/12/2023 at 1549 hrs it was reported by one Gedtrude Angote a resident of Bogani area and chief advisor of Hon. Roselinda Soipan Tuya the environment CS. She reported that the daughter of the CS aged 17 yrs around 1000 hrs jumped over the perimeter wall and boarded a waiting taxi reg no KCX 223L Toyota Vitz white and left for unknown destination. Efforts to trace the girl still ongoing."

Viral Tea was unable to independently verify if the police report shared by Nyakundi to counter DCI was credible. Still, a local media house had reported that police officers guarding the residence told the detectives they did not see the teenage girl as they were stationed at the entrance.

“We have the details of the car that was waiting outside the compound and are tracing it. The missing girl was putting on a khaki pair of trousers and a black sweater,” police were quoted by the media house's report.

Furthermore, detectives reportedly believed the Form 4 student could have planned the escape for a long time, according to a preliminary investigation, as her parents were said to have been strict on her and have not been allowing her to leave the compound.

Police were also reported to have not yet established the motive of the escape and her whereabouts but expressed belief that she was safe.

CS Tuya was yet to comment officially on the matter by the time of publishing this article, which comes more than a month after damning allegations were made by her estranged husband, former Narok Member of County Assembly (MCA) Stephen Ole Kudate, in response to a lawsuit she filed against him.

Kudate in response to an application filed by Tuya seeking upkeep and child maintenance, began by claiming that the CS had chased him out of their matrimonial home in Kileleshwa, Nairobi when she was appointed to office in 2022 by President William Ruto.

He revealed that they were legally married having observed all traditional marriage rites, further confirming that they sired two children who in his side of the story, have not been neglected as purported by Tuya.

According to Kudate, he was deliberately denied by the CS from seeing the children and excluded from participating in their children's welfare.

Furthermore, the former MCA sensationally claimed that Tuya had been having a romantic and sexual relationship with her official driver, a matter he said he would base on during his cross-examination of Tuya when the matter is heard.

“The sexual relationship between Tuya and her official driver is a mask for other sexual relationships with other high-ranking individuals in the society,” he went on.

CS Tuya has yet to respond to this counter-claim by the time of publishing. She moved to court in October this year seeking custody of their two children and Ksh525,000 in upkeep, claiming her estranged husband was being violent to her and the children, as well as treating domestic workers with contempt.
