The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has reduced fuel prices yet again for the period between Wednesday, May 15 and Friday, June 14.

In a statement, EPRA announced that the prices of Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene all went down by Ksh1, Ksh1.20 and Ksh1.30, all per litre, respectively.

"In accordance with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019 and Legal Notice No.192 of 2022, we have calculated the maximum retail prices of petroleum products, which will be in force from 15th May 2024 to 14th June 2024," stated EPRA in part.

Last month, the fuel prices read as follows: Ksh193.84 for Super Petrol, Ksh180.38 for Diesel and Ksh170.06 for Kerosene.

For this month, Nairobi motorists will pay as follows: Ksh192.84 for Super Petrol, Ksh179.18 for Diesel and Ksh168.76 for Kerosene.

"The prices are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020," EPRA announced.

The regulator further noted that the landed cost of importer Super Petrol increased by 3.82 per cent between March and April, diesel decreased by 0.46 per cent and Kerosene by 0.050 per cent during that period.

EPRA Director General Daniel Kiptoo added that the purpose of the Petroleum Pricing Regulations is to cap the retail prices of petroleum products which are already in the country so that importation and other prudently incurred costs are recovered while ensuring reasonable prices to consumers.

"EPRA wishes to assure the public of its continued commitment to the observance of fair competition and protection of the interests of both consumers and investors in the energy and petroleum sectors," he added.

In terms of fuel price breakdown by major city and town, in Mombasa, a litre of super petrol will retail at Ksh189.66, diesel at Ksh176.01, and Kerosene at Ksh165.59.

Motorists in the city of Nakuru will part with Ksh191.90, Ksh178.62, and Ksh168.26, respectively for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene.
