Firyal Nur Al Hossain, the daughter of Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Amb Amina Mohamed, is a woman oozing class everywhere she goes. The fashion guru, model and businesswoman lives an interesting lifestyle little-known by members of the public.

On Sunday, July 17, reports went rife on social media that she was among a delegation of non-officials that had travelled to Oregon, USA for the 2022 World Athletics Championships, which triggered visa hitches that befell Africa's fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala.

The athlete failed to secure a slot at the finals of the 100 metres after finishing fifth in the semi-finals with 10.14 seconds, behind Oblique Seville of Jamaica who clocked 9:30, Marvin Bracy (9:93), Aaron Brown (10:06) and Favour Oghene of Nigeria (10:12).

On top of Kenyans blaming the Sports CS for the delay that led to Omanyala's late arrival at the competition, an image went viral of Omanyala posing with Nur, drawing sharp reactions from netizens who claimed that she was amongst the travelling party to the US in place of Omanyala.

Moreover, a local blog had reported that she had travelled to the US, though it did not specify which part of the country she travelled to.

Viral Tea established that the photo that went viral was taken during the Kip Keino Classic on Saturday, May 7, 2022, in Kasarani, Nairobi which Omanyala won at a time of 9.85 seconds during the men's 100 metres.

"Congratulations to the King of Africa and the fastest man on the continent - Ferdinand Omanyala," she captioned at the time.

Spot checks on her profile revealed that she had travelled to Zanzibar on June 6, 2022, and then to New York, USA on June 19. It was there that she visited Brooklyn before heading to Chinatown, Cara Hotel and 30 Rockefeller Plaza before a Saturday, July 16 update placed her at Hamptons in Long Island.

Soft Life of Firyal Nur

Besides the recent saga, Nur has led her life away from the public eye, despite coming from a prominent family. The fact that very little is known of her lifestyle means she can slip through countries across the world unnoticed, unlike many children of Kenya's elite.

She attended the International School of Geneva in Switzerland, where she spent most of her childhood. She graduated with a High School diploma in 2007.

She then came to Kenya and between 2008 and 2013, she enrolled at the United States International University-Africa (USIU) where she successfully pursued a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Affairs.

Nur later proceeded to attend Università Bocconi in Italy and graduated with a Masters degree in Fashion Direction – Brand & Retail Management.

During her time in Switzerland, she worked as an operations manager and executive assistant to the director at a local firm for one year. In Kenya, she co-founded and directed Badili Kenya, a community-based organisation (CBO) interested in awareness, literacy, civic education and enlightening Kenyan youth on current issues affecting their lives.

In 2012, she briefly worked as an assistant stylist at Love Magazine, which would soon be the catalyst for her love for fashion. Between September 2012 and April 2013, Nur interned at the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) for three months, then five months as a hired consultant.

In 2013, she founded NUR, her own clothing line and brand aimed at becoming an internationally renowned bespoke African luxury brand. Its clothing collection ranges from khanga shorts and cotton shirts to a blend of Ethiopian fabrics and some exotic pieces.

One year later, her designs would gain attention across the world and land her chance meetings with Hollywood stars such as Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. Nur met the duo during the Paris Fashion Week in 2014 where they loved her designs so much that they placed orders for a few pieces.

Her work has also been featured in top magazines including Zele, Pattern Recognition, LA Fashion, Zen and Fantastic Fall

Nur joined globally renowned clothing conglomerate Gucci in October 2016 where she started out as a special projects assistant for its global markets based in Milan, Italy. She was then transferred to North America under the same role.

In 2019, she was promoted to the Brand and Culture Engagement Manager at the firm and has held the role since. She is tasked with developing creative and innovative ways to fuel and empower communities and individuals the brand engages with through outreach, programs and initiatives.

In November 2020, Nur first made global headlines when she was rumoured to be dating famous actor and Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan.

His engagement on her Instagram page led many to insinuate that the actor actually had eyes on her before confirming that he was dating American comedian Steve Harvey's adoptive daughter, model, entrepreneur and socialite Lori Harvey. The couple parted ways after one and a half years.

"During the pandemic especially, so many things changed for me. I was living in New York at the time, and I had to move back to Kenya within 24 hours because things in the city got bad really quick, as we all know.

"So I was faced with the challenge of packing up my life within a short amount of time and choosing what went with me and what stayed behind," Nur said in a recent interview with Industrie Africa

Nur was also rumoured to be dating President Uhuru Kenyatta’s son, Muhoho Kenyatta, who is also a fashion enthusiast. Viral Tea can confirm that they are dating, according to sources who know her closely.
