Billionaire and former Kiambaa Member of Parliament Stanley Githunguri is dead.

A report by The Standard on Wednesday, November 30 revealed that the former politician passed away at an undisclosed city hospital at the age of 77. However, the family was yet to communicate.

“I interacted with Githunguri as a young man, he was a dedicated leader who was committed to the welfare of his people”, said Kawanjiku.

Githunguri ventured into politics in 2007 and was elected to the Kiambaa constituency seat then held by a former cabinet minister and businessman the late Njenga Karume.

He served as a member of parliament from 2007 to 2013 after which he vied for the Kiambu senatorial seat but lost to former Senator and current Kiambu Governor, Kimani Wamatangi.

While in Parliament, and a member of the independence party KANU, Githunguri served in the Local Authorities Committee between 2008 and 2013.

Following his defeat to Wamatangi, Githunguri settled into a quiet life away from the public spotlight.

He owns Lilian towers that host the Nairobi Safari Club, Ridgeways Mall, and other properties in Ruiru and Kiambu Sub counties.

He also worked as the CEO of a local bank, having started there after he embarked on further studies in the United States (US).

Githunguri's daughters Lilian Ngagaki and Lilian Wanjiru had disclosed to a court that he (Githunguri) suffered from dementia, blood pressure, and diabetes and he had also undergone a kidney transplant, during a multi-billion property row.
