Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pinned the blame on President William Ruto for a brazen attack which saw a group of unruly youths storm the PCEA Church in Kasarani, Nairobi.

Continuing his barrage of verbal attacks and exposés against the President on Sunday, April 6, the impeached second-in-command claimed that Ruto had turned to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to send goons to cause chaos at Mwiki PCEA Church.

According to Gachagua, Ruto had reached a new level of boldness to the point of allegedly deploying the goons to infiltrate a church. Luckily, Gachagua's security team repelled them before they could cause more harm than they did.

"Unfortunately, there are concerted efforts to curtail our freedom to move around the country and associate with like-minded people. I did not mind Ruto sending goons after me, but in church? Surely? What has happened to you, Mr. President?" the former DP posed in shock.

"In a church? You have reached a different level. You sent me goons in Limuru last week, you sent goons to Nyeri, and now you've sent them to church. You have become bold."

Gachagua went on to claim that police officers were instructed to stand down and not intervene during the attack, saying that only a handful of well-meaning officers stepped in voluntarily to assist.

He directly accused the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Kenya Police Service of intentionally neglecting their duty to maintain security in Mwiki, despite being constitutionally mandated to do so. "We are aware the DIG said no police should come, but I appreciate that some officers came," he added.

"Which is strange because you visited Mt Kenya and no one frustrated you. The way you've welcomed us, you should also afford us the same respect wherever we go. When you want to pursue us, don't pursue us in church."

The former Deputy President warned President Ruto of serious consequences if anything were to happen to him, claiming that his political message would live on through his allies.

In a final swipe at the president, Gachagua claimed that the president’s ties with the PCEA church had been permanently broken, and that "other churches are also seeing. Let us be decent; don’t pursue us in the church. Just as you were welcomed in the Mt. Kenya region, allow us to tour the country as well."

Chaos erupted on Sunday when security personnel linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua fired shots into the air to disperse a crowd of youths who had stormed the PCEA Kasarani East church. Reports indicated that the officers responded after the youths allegedly demanded cash to attend the event.

Gachagua’s claims were backed by several MPs present at the service, including Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru and Starehe MP Amos Maina, who accused the Nairobi governor of orchestrating the incident.

Meanwhile, Gachagua affirmed that his political movement is still on track for an official launch in May 2025. He also teased a follow-up tell-all interview set for Monday, April 7.
